Question

How do I get to Arraial d'Ajuda?

Answer

The easiest way to get to Arraial d'Ajuda is to fly into Porto Seguro, Bahia. Most major cities fly to São Paulo (GRU) and then it's a quick flight to Porto Seguro (BPS). You can also fly into Porto Seguro from Rio de Janeiro (GIG). Once you arrive in Porto Seguro, it's about a 40 minute drive to Arraial d'Ajuda. Please let us know when you schedule your flight. We can help you coordinate with other guests and schedule a car service to pick you up or Ubers are available.

Question

Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

You do not need to rent a car, however if you would like the freedom and flexibility to explore Bahia, you can rent a car at the airport in Porto Seguro. Please note it is very easy and affordable to hire a car service in Bahia. We can schedule car pools to popular locations and will be organizing at least one excursion.

Question

Can I coordinate travel or carpool with others?

Answer

Question

Should I travel to other parts of Brazil while I'm there?

Answer

Question

What's the weather like in Bahia?

Answer

The weather is usually very warm and breezy, with temperatures ranging from 72-84°F (22-29°C), and can feel a little chilly at night with the ocean breeze. It is a tropical climate and we'll likely have some rain. Like most tropical locations, you may encounter the occasional mosquito at night. We highly recommend bringing some sort of bug repellent or you can purchase some while you are here.

Question

What currency is used in Brazil?

Answer

The currency used is the Brazilian Real. At time of writing this, the exchange rate is 1 USD to 5.33 BRL. Most locations accept credit/debit cards but it doesn't hurt to have a little cash on you for local vendors. However, on our last trip, even the local beach vendor accepted credit cards so if you don't have cash, you will be ok. If you would like to get some reais, you can do so at the airport or we recommend doing so at your local currency exchange location or bank for the best rate.

Question

Is it easy to get by speaking English in Bahia?

Answer

In Bahia, English is not as commonly spoken. If you feel like working on your Brazilian Portuguese prior to the event, you can find many helpful free videos on youtube. If you are looking for an app, we recommend Pimsleur over Duolingo. Google translate can always come in handy if you find you are not able to communicate.
