The story of how we met. It is not the most romantic of beginnings; however, Josh and I's connection came as a surprise in both of our lives. We were young. It was the end of our sophomore year of college. I was attending Kent State University and he was commuting to Cleveland State; neither of us were expecting to meet our future spouse, but I'm so thankful we did. It all started because I needed to save money for my upcoming study-abroad trip to Florence, and the only response I got while applying at the mall was from Vans shoe store. It must have been fate because I had never skateboarded a day in my life, nor had t-shirts and sneakers ever been my go-to style, but I was excited to start my new summer job at a t-shirt/sneaker/skateboard store. It was my first day at work and a cute kid with blond hair showed me how to fold the shirts - so naturally I went home that day and told my roommates about 'cute boy.' However, those of you who know Josh probably know that he used to be pretty shy. And that shyness became literal silence when it came to talking to girls. So we went a bit of time barely acknowledging each other at work until (and this is the embarrassing part), I saw him on Tinder! My not-so-shy self went ahead and messaged this boy from my part-time job and we began texting daily. But the awkwardness doesn't stop there, for the next few weeks we continued texting on off time, yet totally ignoring each other while face-to-face at work. Eventually we started hanging out; I pretended to want to learn how to skateboard and Josh pretended that he was totally going to teach me! Our lives being single were over from there because we started adventuring together from then on out! We spent the summer between sophomore and junior year of college going on mini road trips to wherever we could drive to and from in one day. Then eventually Josh went on a bigger road trip; he visited me while I studied abroad in Italy.! And as they say, the rest....is history!!
During college I worked at a Vans store in Beachwood, Ohio. After a year I began training new-hires, and Marie was one of the first ones I trained. As soon as she walked in it was very awkward for me because she was so beautiful and unique to me. During work there wasn't a ton of conversation between us because I really couldn't figure out a way to talk to her unrelated to work without seeming nervous. Eventually she asked me to "teach her how to skate," which is never what someone means when they ask you this question. We hung out in a neighborhood by her house, and we ended up walking and talking for a couple hours. Eventually we went back to our cars in the Heinen's parking lot. We talked for a little longer and she claims I interrupted her mid-sentence to say "I have to leave" (totally not true!). One night her and I were working on window displays after close with a few coworkers. They made a plan to go to a show in Akron the following week, and that night Marie invited me to come along. At the show, we all ended up on the dance floor and Marie was actually the one to make the first move and kissed me; I was surprised but super happy. We made plans to go back the next week, and after that second show I asked her if she was interested in dating. Marie tabled this conversation until I invited her to a concert in Detroit. We drove out to the city, hung out and explored the city from morning to night, and made our way to El Club around 9:00. We waited for the headliner for three hours; during this time we endured an hour and a half of the worst noise band ever assembled, along with another hour of a solo harpist. We left the show around 1:00 A.M and drove back home; early in the car ride I asked her if she wanted to make our relationship official and then she fell asleep almost immediately after. The rest is history!
Hello! Some of you might not know what Josh and I have been up to recently; so if you are one of those people, keep reading! Something special about Josh and I is that when we met, something we had in common was the desire to travel, but more specifically to start a life in New York City! After graduating from college, Josh and I found jobs and moved to Brooklyn, New York. We both work in the fashion industry and spend a lot of our free time trying out new restaurants, seeing comedy shows, and venturing to find the World's Best Cup of Coffee.
