The leaves were an orange color, and the air was crisp - it was a typical autumn evening in 2012 during my freshman year of college when I met Greg for the first time. Our mutual friends had recruited us to meet at a Halloween party that night, and I had decided to go as a cowgirl, comfortable in jeans, flannel, and boots. Greg, on the other hand, was paired with his friend to go as 'Salt and Pepper' - Greg was "Pepper" with an all-black outfit, a letter "P" on written on his forehead and a black beanie. While getting ready to go to the party, I hear a knock on my dorm room. It was Greg, with his bright eyes and big white smile, thinking my room was where everyone was gathering before heading to the party. I hadn't met him before, but I knew he was friends with my friends. When I opened the door and saw him standing there, the "P" on his forehead made me laugh, and I wasn't sure what this guy was dressed up as. Then I saw his friend appearing behind him dressed up in an all-white outfit with an "S" on his forehead. Salt and Pepper. Right. When we arrived at the Halloween gathering, Greg and I talked and even took our first picture together. I remember Greg's smile brightening the room, his smile was contagious, and my favorite feature of his. A day or two after the party, I wanted to connect with Greg again and found him on FB. I messaged him with the silly excuse of not knowing what our friends were doing for the rest of the Halloween weekend. We connected again. One thing led to another, and we then decided to spend time together, a friendship grew from there, and by winter break, we were in a relationship. Seven years later, after undergrad, business school, long-distance dating, the military, and attending many family celebrations, it's finally our time to be together with less than hundreds of miles between us.
