There are several ways to get to Montezuma depending on your comfort level, budget, and schedule. If possible, try to arrive in Costa Rica earlier in the day (Before 1pm); this makes the journey to Montezuma smoother. Traveling in groups can also help reduce the cost of private shuttles. *IMPORTANT* Our amazing wedding planner, Corina, is in charge of all your transportation needs to and from Montezuma to make your travels to us as smooth as possible. Please reach out to her via email events@amordemar.com or WhatsApp +(506) 8906-9444 once you have booked your flights to Costa Rica!

Travel Note

🌊 Option 1 : Shuttle + Taxi Boat

1. Pickup from the airport or an airport hotel by shuttle 2. Drive to Herradura Beach (approx. 1 hour 20 minutes) 3. Speed Taxi Boat across the Nicoya Peninsula (about 1 hour) 4. Arrive directly at Montezuma Beach – just a 5-minute walk to the hotel (or we can arrange a quick taxi for you!) Cost: $85 one way + tax Total travel time: ~2.5–3 hours This is one of the fastest, easiest, and most scenic ways to reach Montezuma. You’ll get gorgeous views on the boat ride, and your luggage stays dry and safely stored throughout the trip!

Travel Note

🚐 Option 2: Shared Shuttle

Door-to-door service from airport/hotel in San José Includes ferry transfer assistance and drop-off in Montezuma Cost: $50–$70 per person (Potential to be cheaper if traveling in a large group) Total travel time: ~5 hours A comfortable, mid-range option with minimal hassle.

Flight

✈️ Option 3: Domestic Flight + Taxi

Flight from San José to Cobano Airport (30 minutes) Taxi or shuttle from Cobano to Montezuma (about 10 minutes) Airlines: Sansa or Green Airways Cost: $99-$129 Each way Total travel time: ~1.5–2 hours (excluding airport wait time) Fast and scenic but the most expensive option.

Rental Car

🚗 Option 4: Car + Ferry (Self-Drive or Private Transfer)

1. Drive from San José to Puntarenas Port (1.5–2 hours) 2. Ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera (1 hour 15 minutes) 3. Drive from Paquera to Montezuma (1 hour) Total travel time: ~4–5 hours Great if you're renting a car or want to book a private driver. *You do not need a rental car in Montezuma! We will have shuttles for the wedding day, and the easiest way to explore the city is by ATVs. If you plan to explore more of Costa Rica before or after the wedding this is a good option but not necessary for Montezuma (Do your research on rental car insurance or reach out to Davis to help so you don't pay unnecessary fee's)

Travel Note

Alternative Arrival Airport: Liberia

While we recommend flying into San José International Airport (SJO) for the smoothest travel to Montezuma, you can also fly into Liberia International Airport (LIR), located in the northwest part of Costa Rica. Here are the options from Liberia to Montezuma: ✈️ Domestic Flight Sansa Airlines offers flights to Cobano Airport (the same arrival airport as from San José). From Cobano, take a taxi or shuttle to Montezuma (about 20 minutes). Fastest but also the most expensive from Liberia. 🚗 Rental Car Renting a car is an option. Travel time: ~4hours You’ll take the land route around the Nicoya Peninsula. 🚐 Shuttle Service Shared shuttle services are available for around $55 + tax Travel time varies depending on time of day and group size.
