Philadelphia's "Central Park" but better. Featuring gorgeous nature, water features, meadows, and 50 miles of trails, "The Wiss" is the place to go for convenient outdoor adventuring within city limits.
You can find it all on Main Street in Manayunk - craft breweries, thrift shops, locally-made ice cream, and all kinds of delicious eats.
Most well-known for "The Rocky Steps," The Art Museum is full of history and culture. Plan to take a tour or just run up the stairs and say hi to the statue of Rocky.
Our favorite place to run! "The path" is frequented by runners, walkers, and cyclists with its lovely setting along the Schuylkill River. Head north along Kelly Drive or south toward the city skyline. Both have great and unique sights.
Another iconic Philly area. Special to us for the following reasons: - where Mari rows boats - where our running team meets on Sunday mornings - along our regular running route - where our wedding party takes place. See you there!
Needs little explanation! This is Philadelphia's marquee historical site. Take a tour and see where the Declaration of Independence was signed and of course, check out the Liberty Bell.
From Wikipedia: Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is a non-profit organization, folk art environment, and gallery space on South Street. To date, it is the largest work created by mosaic artist Isaiah Zagar. The Magic Gardens spans three city lots, and includes indoor galleries and a large outdoor labyrinth. The mosaics are made up of everything from kitchen tiles to bike wheels, Latin-American art to china plates. The space is open for public view, from 11:00-6:00 Wednesday through Monday and closed on Tuesdays.
Walnut Street in Center City Philadelphia is the prime destination for higher-end shopping and some of the best food in-town.
A hip urban beer garden across the street from our favorite running shop!
Finely manicured park and green space alongside the business district with nice city views and occasional farmer's markets and street performers.
A circular park along Philly's most scenic boulevard where the famous LOVE statue resides.
An iconic Philadelphia landmark and designed to be the world's tallest building, (which is laughable by today's standards), it was surpassed during construction by the Washington Monument, the Eiffel Tower and the Mole Antonelliana. Dilworth Park on City Hall's patio is a great spot to gather for city vibes and refreshments featuring a roller rink.
The design of Race Street Pier is a nod towards its original function as a bi-level shipping pier built-in 1896. The Pier, situated in the shadow of the Ben Franklin Bridge and just north of Cherry Street Pier, has an upper level with a grand sky promenade and a lower level for passive recreation and social gathering. In other words, a great outdoor spot to check out and hang out.
"Cherry Street Pier is a year-round, mixed-use public space on the central Delaware River waterfront. Built into the shell of a century-old municipal pier, it is a reflection of Philadelphia today—creative, diverse, historic, adaptable, and inspired. The Pier is free to enter and open to the public." Really awesome place featuring art studios, great food and drinks, and excellent views of the Delaware River and Ben Franklin Bridge.
Hygge is an ideal nighttime restuarant, bar, and lounge, or as Google puts it: "cozy industrial-style brewpub serving house beer, plus sharing boards with cheese, veggies & more." This is where we met up for our first date! If you don't know what "hygge" is, look it up...or go here: https://www.barhygge.com/hygge/
Our favorite local coffee and pastry shop, two blocks from home.
Our favorite local lunch spot. Seriously great sandwiches and salads. Two blocks from home.
Our favorite local pizza spot. Luigi's is one of those pizza shops with a variety of creative slices and pies in-addition to the traditional. Four blocks from home.
Probably the best nearby shop for a Philly cheesesteak. Pair this with a swing through Love Park, Rittenhouse Square, or a walk along Walnut Street. If you're willing to travel for the best cheesesteaks, head just outside of the city to D’Alessandro’s or drive a bit deeper into South Philly to Angelo's.
Great sitdown Mexican restaurant with excellent tacos.
Outstanding Israeli cuisine by Philly-famous Chef, Michael Solomonov. Best hummus on this side of the Mediterranean!
Great local brewpub situated on the Ben Franklin Parkway featuring a second-story outdoor patio with views of Love Park and City Hall.
This is a special place. Only two years old, Taco Heart is Philadelphia's premier breakfast taco joint inspired by an Austin, TX standard. If you've never had breakfast tacos, prioritize this! Consider joining us for our Saturday morning group run/walk. We will have Taco Heart tacos ready for everyone!
"Fed Nuts" is a Philly favorite for fresh donuts and fried chicken. You will always leave satisfied. Note: Fed Nuts is great, but find our favorite donuts at Beiler's in Reading Terminal Market.
Iconic indoor marketplace converted from a historic railway station and one of the nation’s oldest and largest public markets, first opened in 1893. Enjoy a wide variety of cuisines all available from largely locally owned, family-run stands. Here you can find some of the best breakfast and lunch in the city, including the absolute best donuts around at Beiler’s. The market also features small craft shops, bakeries, butcher shops, and a produce market.
"An elevated British-style pub in the heart of East Falls." Our favorites are the burger and the pea soup. Ask for Sean!
