What is a Pakistani-American wedding like?

You can expect colorful celebrations with a mix of cultural events, delicious food, vibrant clothing, music, and dance. The events often include a combination of religious ceremonies, cultural rituals, and festive gatherings.

What should I wear to the wedding?
Answer
Pakistani-American weddings are often very colorful, so feel free to wear something bright and festive! On the Nikkah Ceremony (May 31st at 2:30 pm), we encourage colorful pastels. For the Reception (June 1st at 5:30 pm), we encourage elegant dress. For men, a formal suit or traditional sherwani and kurta is common. Women typically wear traditional outfits such as a lehenga, saree, or an embellished salwar kameez.

Where can I purchase desi clothes from?
Answer
If you want to wear traditional clothes and you do not know where to start, do not worry! We got you. We would recommend starting on the website LAAM.pk. This website has a large array of desi clothes for both men and women. If you are a woman and want a modern twist on a lehenga, saree, or maxi dress we would recommend searching www.lashkaraa.com. Will there be alcohol served?
Answer
There will be no alcohol served, but get ready for some delicious non alcoholic beverages, including custom mocktails, chais, and (of course on behalf of Mariam) coffees and lattes.

What type of food can I expect?
Answer
Pakistani weddings are known for their delicious, flavorful dishes and desserts. There’s usually something for everyone, whether you enjoy rich, spicy foods or vegetarian dishes. There may be nuts in certain dishes, so if you have any food allergies, please let us know. And yes...there will be cake.
