The most random of all souls, purist lefty in the mix, Maria is simple at heart with a propensity to doing things beyond her comprehension. With a personal mantra of “Keep Going,” she likes going with the flow regardless of what is at stake. Love is nature at its core. With that, her spectrum of love spreads across her closest friends, immediate family, and her partner in crime, Michelle and their puppy love, Ciao Mhayne. Needless to say, she feels extremely thankful for everything life has given her.

At the end of the day, Maria loves Katrina more than anyone. If you really know Maria and Katrina’s relationship, you would know why this statement began like this. Katrina and Maria are a year apart. They grew up fighting over the smallest to the biggest things in life but still managed to spend a lot of time together as best friends and lived together for four years in Chicago. They loved talking to each other growing up and would get in trouble by their older sister, Chris Anne, for talking too much at night. But they did it anyway, under covers. Maria’s favorite attribute of Katrina is her humor, communication skills, and fashion style.

Chris Anne is Maria’s older sister. She calls her “Ate” (older sister in Tagalog as a way of respect). While Maria and Chris Anne did not grow up as close as her and Katrina, she always looked up to her and respected her growing up. If it weren’t for her getting her master’s degree, Maria may not have considered going to grad school. She feels very lucky for having an older sister as a first-hand role model to influence some of her key decisions in life, as a lost teenager and young adult. Maria’s favorite attribute of Chris Anne is her generosity, simplicity, and common-sense.

Michel is Maria’s long- and life- time best friend. Maria has met a lot of friends but has never met anyone like Michel – truly the most loyal of all with a one-of-a-kind personality or humor or taste in life. Spending time with Michel tends to consist of laughing-till-we-pee type of moments all the time. Maria loves discussing political/social justice issues with Michel as well as anything that is inappropriate. Maria’s favorite attribute of Michel is her smarts – a true genius - and creativity with words

Ashley and Maria met in the middle school and went to the same high school. While they were never close growing up, they always knew of each other and ran into one another consistently – mostly at parties. Enough of consistent seeing each other (camping, hiking, dinner parties, etc.), over the years of knowing each other, they eventually became closer. Maria considers Ashley not just as one of her closest friends but a family she can always count on. Maria’s favorite attribute of Ashley is her openness, positive attitude and, of course, upbeat energy.
