María & Skyler

FAQs

The Wedding Website of María F. Castellanos and Skyler J. Iafrate
Question

Why Cartagena?

Answer

Cartagena was our first trip together outside of the United States -and Skyler's first time in Colombia! January of 2018, while we were both on our semester breaks from school, we took a flight down to beat the Northeast winter. Our early mornings were spent sight-seeing, middays were spent recovering from the heat and sun, and evenings and nights were meant for slow walks and good food. We booked a second floor apartment with a patio facing the street, and closed the night with some local snacks and beer while we people watched. The city was vibrant, the people were very warm and welcoming -and the experience overall left an impression on us. 21 year-old Maria and Skyler would be shocked to know that this where we'd say "I do!"

Question

What to wear?

Answer

We our planning to have an outdoor reception. Cartagena has a very warm climate. We would recommend our guests wear breathable clothing. For men, we do not think it is necessary to wear suits. Instead, dress pants and a light button-up would be a great alternative. Women, wear whatever light dress you feel beats the heat. There is no real dress code -just kindly reserve the color white for the bride. For those of you planning to arrive earlier than the wedding date, note that the city has many lovely boutique shops from local designers -you might find something you love in one of them!

Question

What about a plus one?

Answer

Seats are reserved in honor of guests named on our invitations. This remains true for children as well. We appreciate your understanding.

Question

How cash friendly is the city?

Answer

While you will mainly use your card for purchases at places such as restaurants, cafes, and shops, cash is the primary form of payment for taxis, street vendors, and smaller businesses. We recommend you have some Colombian Pesos available on arrival. You can withdraw additional cash, if needed, in the city. We recommend withdrawing at Bancolombia, BBVA, or Davivienda banks for the safety of your transactions.

Question

How to get around?

Answer

Much of the tourist area of Cartagena is walkable. However, if you are planning to explore beyond this area, such as the beachside zone of Bocagrande, you will be needing car transportation. While Uber does exist in this city, it may be easier for you to get a taxi as they are everywhere! Be sure to ask for the price of the trip upfront before you get in so they don't up-charge later. Alternatively, you can book a taxi on the Uber app itself -but that's less fun!

We will be updating the website as we get closer to the wedding date and the send-outs of our formal invitations. In the mean time, please feel free to reach out to either of us.
