Whether you prefer to stay close to the wedding venue, or are trying to experience as much of the South as possible, we hope you find this list a helpful starting point! The list begins with coffee shops and restaurants close to the area. Near the end of the list are recommendations for those wanting to see more of Alabama and the South. Alabama Bucket List: -Eat boiled peanuts -Shop at the Piggly Wiggly -Try a pimento cheese sandwhich. If you are extra brave, try a ribbon sandwich. -Visit a historical landmark -Go to a Waffle House -Eat fried green tomatoes -Go to a Buc-ee's gas station

Cornerstone Coffee Co.

12 Kowaliga Road, Eclectic, AL 36024

This is Maggie's favorite coffee shop of all time! This was her happy place and where she liked to spend extended time with Jesus while living in Alabama. Worth the 30 minute drive out for coffee lovers.

BRU 63

17 Russell Farms Road, Alexander City, AL 35010

This coffee shop is much closer to the venue. It is connected to a cute grocery store with lots of lunch options. Maggie is a big fan of their Reviver energy drinks.

Scooter’s Coffee

4141 U.S. 280, Alexander City, AL 35010

This is Alexander City's equivalent to Dutch Bros or Starbucks.

Alana's Place

110 Calhoun Street, Alexander City, AL 35010

Another place to grab coffee, this is Alexander City's best breakfast option. It is located in The Square which is has lots of cute little boutiques to look at.

Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard/ Lake Martin Pizza

8469 Alabama 63, Alexander City, AL 35010

Rita's Ice was a childhood favorite for Maggie. Recently a Rita's Ice opened within walking/biking distance to Maggie's parents' house! This shares the same building with Lake Martin Pizza which is also very good!

Big B Bar-B-Que

1626 Alabama 22, Alexander City, AL 35010

A BBQ place with lots of seating and fun decor. There are also many other BBQ options in the area including Sho'Nuff BBQ and Good Ole Boys BBQ.

SpringHouse

12 Benson Mill Road, Alexander City, AL 35010

Josef and Maggie went on a romantic date here once and it holds special memories. This is a fancy fine dining restaurant that requires a reservation in advance.

Maggie's Dad's favorite spot. A Cambodian restaurant owned by a friendly family that also sells great donuts!

Wharf Casual Seafood Alexander City

4011 U.S. 280, Alexander City, AL 35010

Yummy seafood! It was a big deal when this chain opened in Alex City and it is often packed!

Carlisle's Soda Fountain

12 Main Street, Alexander City, AL 35010

This old fashioned soda fountain has been open since 1914! It is a great place to grab a classic pimento cheese sandwich or to eat ice cream! What makes it an especially fun place is that you can shop and browse antiques while eating.

Pizza & Pint

113 North Broadway Avenue, Sylacauga, AL 35150

Even though this is all the way out in Sylacauga, it is still the Wheelers' favorite restaurant spot! They will regularly make the drive out because the pizza is so delicious

Russell Crossroads

27 Russell Farms Road, Alexander City, AL 35010

This is a great place to explore. Here you have access to Catherine's Market (a cute little grocery store), Bru 63, and multiple restaurants. There are multiple walking and hiking paths. You can walk to the stables and see horses and long horned cattle.

Russell Lands Forest Trails

Wind Creek State Park and Camping Ground

A beautiful state park where you can also rent and launch boats. Has a $5 per person entry fee.

Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail

2234 Overlook Drive, Dadeville, AL 36853

Nice hike with beautiful views over Lake Martin

Smith Mountain Fire Tower

Jacksons' Gap, AL 36861

A nice hiking loop where you can climb a fire tower that gives you views over Lake Martin!

Horseshoe Bend National Military Park

11288 Horseshoe Bend Road, Daviston, AL 36256

Wetumpka

Wetumpka, AL

Wetumpka is a cute small Southern town relatively close to Alexander City. A lot of effort has been made to restore the downtown area as it was recently featured on HGTV’s premiere season of Home Town Takeover! It is also where Tim Burton's film Big Fish was filmed.

Auburn

Auburn, AL

A bustling college town with lots to explore. Makes a great day trip for those wanting to see more of Alabama! Toomer's Corner has the best lemonade.

Montgomery

Montgomery, AL

This is a great city to visit if you want to learn more about the Civil Rights movement. You can see Dr. Martin Luther King's home and visit where Rosa Parks refused to sit in the back of the bus.

Birmingham

Birmingham, AL

Alabama's biggest city with lots of culture, arts, and history!

Atlanta

Atlanta, GA

We love Atlanta! Atlanta is a HUGE city with lots to explore! It is nicknamed the New York of the South. Because it is a big city, we highly recommend you research and plan before hand if you decide to explore! Savannah

For those of you really wanting to explore the South, Savannah is an iconic and beautiful city like no other!

Charleston

Charleston, SC

For the adventurers trying to make the Ultimate Southern Road Trip experience, Savannah, Charleston, and Nashville are cities worth considering. It just depends on how far you are wanting to travel.
