Old Mission Santa BarbaraOld Mission Santa Barbara

2201 Laguna Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93105

If you have a free hour or two, we highly recommend a visit to Old Mission Santa Barbara. Known as the "Queen of the Missions," this historic landmark is one of the most beautiful spots in the city.

Lama Dog Tap Room + Bottle ShopLama Dog Tap Room + Bottle Shop

116 Santa Barbara Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

If you like beer and a relaxed atmosphere, this tap room is for you! We love coming here to visit with family when we are in town.

La Super-Rica TaqueriaLa Super-Rica Taqueria

622 North Milpas Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93103

Looking for authentic, home-made Mexican food? La Super-Rica is for you! This is a must-stop for us when we are in town. There’s almost always a line out the door, but it moves quickly and the alambres (our favorite) are well worth the wait. It’s the perfect spot for a quick, legendary lunch - a personal favorite of Julia Child! Note that this joint is cash-only!

Handlebar Coffee RoastersHandlebar Coffee Roasters

128 East Canon Perdido Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

Our personal favorite for coffee in Santa Barbara! Located right across from the historic Presidio, this shop was started by two former professional cyclists and has become a local staple for its excellent house-roasted beans and relaxed, bike-friendly atmosphere. It’s a perfect spot to grab a flat white and a pastry from Renaud’s Patisserie before wandering through the oldest part of downtown.

Santa Barbara Botanic GardenSanta Barbara Botanic Garden

1212 Mission Canyon Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93105

For a truly serene escape, we highly recommend a stroll through the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, a stunning 78-acre "living museum" dedicated entirely to California’s native plants. You can wander through the towering Redwood Grove, explore the colorful wildflower meadows, and take in breathtaking panoramic views that stretch from the rugged mountains all the way to the Channel Islands. It’s a peaceful, quintessentially California experience that feels worlds away from the bustle of town, though please remember to book your reservation online in advance to ensure a spot in this tranquil canyon retreat.

SolvangSolvang

Solvang, CA 93463

If you have a little extra time for a scenic drive, we highly recommend a getaway to Solvang, a charming "Danish Capital of America" nestled in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley. This whimsical village feels like stepping into a European fairy tale, complete with traditional windmills, half-timbered architecture, and thatched roofs that make for incredible photos. It is the perfect place to wander through boutique shops, sample authentic aebleskiver at a local bakery, or enjoy a wine tasting at one of the many nearby vineyards. Whether you are there for the world-famous pastries or the unique atmosphere, it offers a delightful and relaxing change of pace just a short trip from Santa Barbara.

Cold Spring TrailCold Spring Trail

824 E Mountain Dr., Montecito, CA 93108

If you're up for a hike, Cold Springs Trail is one of the best ways to see the local landscape without leaving the coast behind. The trail starts in a shaded canyon following a creek before climbing up to some solid viewpoints of the ocean and the Channel Islands. It’s a great spot to get some fresh air and see the Santa Ynez Mountains up close, whether you want a quick 20-minute walk or a longer trek to the ridge.

SB BeachesSB Beaches

Santa Barbara has several great beaches depending on what you're looking for. East Beach is the go-to for a classic wide sandy shore and volleyball, while Butterfly Beach in Montecito is a bit more tucked away and ideal for watching the sunset. If you want to see the local surf scene or walk along the bluffs, head over to Hendry’s Beach (Arroyo Burro), which also has a great restaurant right on the sand. Each spot offers a different perspective of the coast and is perfect for a quick walk or a few hours in the sun.

Pier Santa BarbaraPier Santa Barbara

144-152 Stearns Wharf, Santa Barbara, CA 93101

For a classic Santa Barbara experience, take a walk out onto Stearns Wharf, the oldest working wood wharf in California. It offers a great perspective of the shoreline and the Santa Ynez Mountains from the water. You’ll find several casual seafood spots, a few small shops, and the local Marine Center at the end. It’s a straightforward, scenic stroll that gives you a good feel for the harbor and the city’s maritime history.
