OUR PROPOSAL

October 01, 2021

As a precursor, I knew I was going to ask Sarah to be my wife the moment I laid eyes on her...at our proposal. The months & moments leading up to that gut wrenching, awkwardly sweaty, knee trembling question were incredibly rich with conversation, adventures, difficult challenges, & quality time. After dating several months, Sarah & I began to talk about a long life together & decided to ask our friends, the Kotters, to take us through pre-engagement counseling--asking difficult questions & discovering long-term compatibility. I was sure & ready to go come mid September. I called up my best bud’s jeweler in CA & we picked out the ring; all was set to come mid October. I was so antsy I couldn’t contain myself. On Thursday night, September 30th (TWO WEEKS EARLY) I received an email at 5:34 pm: “The ring is done,” & was asked, “When would you like it?” As quick as my fingers could move, he was met with, “Yesterday!” I had no plan, no momentum, & all the world's zeal. A perfect combo. I called up Sarah’s good friend Jerilyn who was taking Sarah out that next night for dinner & in 1 hour time, we were set. Jer planned the whole deal. I couldn’t believe it. I was going to ask my best friend to be my forever person...one with me. I spent the night on my knees, a nervous, dependent wreck. October 1st, Friday morning, 9:51 am, the ring was in my hand from CA. The jeweler had the package overnighted with “EXTREMELY URGENT” plastered on the package. I ran out of my nursing lecture crying with overwhelming emotions. I blinked & it was time to go..Jerilyn’s husband, Kirk (one of the stallion groomsmen), picked me up from the restaurant he & I told the girls we would be hanging while they did their thing. While the girls were sipping & chatting, Kirk & I snuck in, gave Jerilyn the cue & she promptly excused herself to the "restroom." Walking in clammy & shaky, flowers in one hand, ring in the other, I grab Sarah's hand. She stood up, I took a knee, & the rest is history. Marcus
