Adler started attending our current church, Latter Rain Family Worship Center, in 2016. Shamar had grown up in this church and had been a member since she was about 12 years old. When Adler first joined, he felt that Shamar was standoffish and never spoke to him. Although Adler built relationships with many active members and leaders of the church right away, his connection with Shamar was a bit delayed. Eventually, Shamar and Adler started inviting each other to social gatherings, such as her birthday dinner and his 30th all-white brunch party. He even offered to take her to get her car fixed one day. However, they didn't really hit it off until 2020, when they started working closely together to plan their Pastor's 50th party. Our dear friend Kartika saw the potential and began intentionally playing matchmaker, hinting that we needed to be together. Then the world went into the pandemic, and our friend group started hanging out more intimately in "social isolation" at Shamar's apartment. Eventually, Shamar and Adler started texting and hanging out more without their other friends. Adler officially asked Shamar to be his girlfriend on August 2, 2020.

Adler and Shamar got engaged on Thursday, November 2, 2023. After years of dating Shamar, Adler knew she was the one and that it was time to tie the knot. He planned an intimate and private proposal at Giselle Miami Rooftop Restaurant. He was originally nervous but made it his mission to keep the proposal as secretive and memorable as possible. She had no idea, as Adler had even tried throwing her off in previous conversations earlier in the year to keep her from suspecting it would happen soon. He was very successful. After the proposal at dinner, Adler took her to another nearby location, Rosa Sky Miami, which also has a beautiful rooftop, because Shamar loves skyline sceneries. Upon arrival, she was greeted by close family and friends, whom Adler had planned to surprise her at this proposal reception. We thank everyone that was present and participated in making this a very special moment for Shamar.
