How to arrive from Mexico City Airport

After arriving at the Mexico City airport, we recommend you take a 2 hour bus ride to Puebla. Preferably to the station "Puebla Paseo Destino" and not "CAPU". The companies "ADO" and "Estrella Roja" offer secure transportation in very modern buses. There are different price categories which will define how comfortable your ride will be (approx. 20 EUR per person). You might want to stay in Puebla for 1-2 days to enjoy the rich colonial history. To get from Puebla to Atlixco, it's most comfortable to take a Uber (1h, 25 EUR) or Taxi directly to your hotel. Taking local buses can be tricky as bus stops are not well documented and connections can vary.

Flight

How to arrive from Cancun Airport

If you're lucky you get one of the cheap round-trip flights from Europe to Cancun. Domestic flights with the companies Viva Aerobus (Mexican Ryanair) and Volaris are typically affordable. The best option is a direct flight to Puebla airport and continue via Uber (1h, 25 EUR) or taxi to your hotel in Atlixco. If you want to visit Puebla, you can also take a 40 min. bus ride from Puebla airport to Puebla City. Preferably to the station "Puebla Paseo Destino" and not "CAPU". The company "Estrella Roja" offer secure transportation in modern buses.

How to get around in Mexico

To make sure that you'll have the best experience moving around in Mexico, we want to give you some general advice on how to get from A to B. 1. Uber works great in most places (not Quintana Roo)! We are taking Uber all the time for short rides in the city or rides up to an hour. It's rather affordable and you don't have to worry about Mexican traffic and parking. Therefore you should buy a local sim card as soon as you arrive in Mexico. Sim cards are widely available in convenience stores like 7-Eleven or Oxxo, even in the airport. Common mobile operators like Telcel, Movistar and AT&T work fine, just make sure to get a big enough data package. 2. There are different types of taxis. Within airports or bus stations you'll find taxi stands with fix prices. They are a good option at this locations. Taxis parked at signposted taxi stands are considered safe and they usually have a telephone number. Taking taxis in the street is considered less secure, we don't recommend it. Honestly, just use Uber. 3. Taking local buses can be tricky as bus stops are not well documented and connections can vary. If you speak Spanish you just ask a local. 4. Buses between major cities are secure and comfortable, but don't underestimate the distances. Avoid travelling at night. Sometimes it's easier to get a domestic flight. 5. Rental cars make sens if you want to do longer road trips, e.g., in Yucatan or Chiapas. Keep in mind that traffic can be intense in the major cities.
