Travel Note
Sitka is a beautiful community we are so excited to share with you, but there are some considerations when visiting remote Alaska we want you to be aware of as you plan for this unique experience. Sitka has a mix of modern amenities you might not expect for a town of 8,000 people as well as limitations and unusual (unique!) ways of doing things. We encourage you to remember that small-town limitations and setbacks are "folksy!" "charming!" and "rustic!" See FAQs for more details on weather and thoughts for packing.
Travel Note
During our wedding times, Alaska Airlines provides jet service to Sitka. You will need to fly to our town through either Anchorage or Seattle. There may also be a "milk run" stop in Juneau or Ketchikan. It is generally possible to get to Sitka in a day from the Eastern timezone but may not be possible on the way back because of time zones. Juneau and Seattle both have hotels within walking distance of the airport if needed.
Travel Note
Please book early to ensure you have a place to stay. This time of year Sitka has a limited amount of lodging available. You may see higher prices than you expect for basic accommodations. If booking hotels, ask for a wedding discount (usually about 10%). We have spoken with Sitka Hotel and Baranof Lodge about wedding blocks, but the staff may need some reminders when you call to book. There are also many professionally run air BNBs, but again you will need to book early. We will also be reserving a dormitory owned by Sitka Fine Arts Camp. It will have basic accommodations, but it will be free, available, and centrally located. If you are interested, please let us know and we will place you in the dorm. Do not book through the Sitka Fine Arts website. Lastly, if none of these accommodations are available or meet your needs, we do have a few friends who have been generous enough to offer a room in their homes. Please reach out if that is your preference and we will do our best to accommodate you. Note: PLEASE ensure that you are staying in Sitka, AK proper. There are some lodges etc that are on neighboring islands and require a boat to get to and from town. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you are unsure about your stay.
Travel Note
Sitka does not have Uber or Lyft and taxi service can be spotty during the summer when many drivers are giving tours rather than shuttling people from place to place. Bus service is also circuitous and limited to weekdays before 7:30 pm. Many hotels and AirBnbs are downtown, which is highly walkable and near planned events. Some rental cars are available and if you are outside of downtown, this could be a worthwhile investment. We will provide bus transportation to all wedding events from the hotels and Fine Arts Camp dorms. For those who are staying further from town, we will need an early notice if you will need transportation assistance for these events.
Hotel
We have reserved two dormitories from Sitka Fine Arts Camp located across the street from beautiful Crescent Harbor. Take yourself back to the glory days and stay in a college dorm with your friends. It is conveniently located downtown with some lounge spaces and guaranteed to be a fun time for a good deal in a town where guaranteed housing in the summer is hard to find. However, expect fewer amenities than a standard hotel. (e.g. common bathroom, shared kitchen, etc.)
