Our Story

On a warm, early September day in 2016, a girl with mulberry-stained hair and eyes like Assam tea arrived at Myers Hall on Carleton’s campus. A boy with Hamm's gold hair helped carry her boxes up to her dorm room, joking that she must have packed the most shoes (she was, in fact, beaten by one box). Neither of them could have known that the spark they felt in that dingy Myers elevator would shape the rest of their lives. By January, a bunch of sticky notes and a courageous gamble or two had stoked that spark into a full-fledged flame. After graduation, distance tested them. Malika returned to Boston to work as a paralegal while Fletcher began his PhD in Madison. After four years of phone calls and flights, she changed careers and joined him there. Today, nearly a decade later, they share a home (mid-renovation), a thriving garden, and two beloved cats—Pur and Mew. They may have stepped off that elevator on 3rd Myers, but the love that began there is still ascending to this day.
