It was the start of junior year in college, when classes hadn't quite started yet, and everyone was looking for a way to make summer break last just a little bit longer. As it turns out, Sam and I had the same idea that night: a party at Vanessa Carsey's apartment! We both arrived completely unaware that the person we'd one day marry was only a few feet away. At one point in the evening, Sam and his roommates decided they needed a photo on the balcony, and I happened to be the one who took it. The night came and went with just that brief moment and a picture. We didn’t talk much, and for the next few months, we were simply two familiar faces passing each other around campus. It wasn’t until second semester that our paths truly crossed again, and our friendship began. Eventually, I moved into that very same apartment on Ascot Drive, becoming roommates with Vanessa, the host of that first party and now a bridesmaid in our wedding. Not long after, Sam asked me to be his girlfriend, and here we are, getting married almost exactly four years after we first met. We'll always be grateful for that apartment on Ascot Drive, and for Saint Mary’s, a small place with a special way of keeping familiar faces close by until the timing is just right. - Makenna
