We first crossed paths during Open Dorms our freshman year at Olivet. The halls were buzzing with people meeting new friends, and we both happened to end up in the same place at the same time. A mutual friend waved us over and introduced us. What we didn’t know at the time was that this same friend had also told each of us, separately, that the other “liked” us — which neither of us had actually said! It was just a funny rumor that set things in motion. What started as a completely accidental introduction quickly turned into small conversations between classes, late-night study sessions, and grabbing coffee together “just to hang out.” We discovered how much we had in common and how easy it felt to talk to each other. As weeks passed, that casual connection grew into a genuine friendship and, eventually, into the relationship we’re so grateful for today. Looking back, it makes us laugh to think that neither of us ever told our friend we “liked” the other — but we’re thankful for that little misunderstanding, because without it we might not have been nudged together so soon.
