We were just 14 and 15 when we first started dating, brought together by a shared love of fun and new experiences. Like many young couples, we took a break- mostly because Sam couldn’t drive Makayla on dates yet (haha)- but we stayed close friends throughout high school. As it turns out, we were never really far apart. We ended up in the same clubs, classes, and friend groups, crossing paths almost daily. By our junior and senior years, that friendship naturally found its way back into something more, and we started dating again. From early on, we would always say “first and last,” joking that we were each other’s first boyfriend and girlfriend- but maybe also our last. We spent our time driving around listening to music, going on simple dates, and taking long walks- really, just finding any excuse to be together. One of our earliest memories is celebrating our one-month anniversary with a date Sam planned: co-piloting a family friend’s airplane over the lake and our hometown. It set the tone for us- we’ve been celebrating every month since. When college came around, not much changed. Sam was at Purdue, and Makayla made plenty of drives to West Lafayette just to spend time together, even if it meant sitting in on his classes. In 2020, we moved to Arizona to finish school and quickly fell in love with it. Five years later, Arizona is home. We live in Phoenix with our dog, Indy, who is also our best friend. Makayla teaches third grade, and Sam works as a real estate broker. We’ve spent our time traveling, soaking up the sun, and making memories with friends, but our favorite part of any day is still just being together. We’re excited to continue building this life as husband and wife, and even more excited to celebrate with all of you. Thanks for being part of our story, we can’t wait to see you soon.
