Carson and Makayla met while both attending New England Baptist College in Southington, Connecticut. Because of mutual friends, they started talking during the spring semester of 2018 and very quickly became close friends. In December Carson asked Makayla to be his date the their college Christmas banquet. A few months later Carson asked Makayla to be his date to their college Valentines banquet. After the banquet, on February 8, 2019 he asked her to be his girlfriend.
In August of 2020, after a summer of many changes of plans, Carson traveled to Maine to be with Makayla for a week while she recovered from surgery. On Tuesday August 11th, Carson persuaded Makayla to get out of the house for the afternoon. Still not feeling well, she reluctantly got ready for the day and asked her younger sister Kelsey to tag along. Carson then texted Kelsey to let her know he was going to propose. Kelsey began to cry tears of joy, which her overprotective big sister could hear from downstairs and misinterpreted as Kelsey being hurt. Makayla went upstairs as quickly as she could and Kelsey assured her that she was crying because of good news and she just could not talk about it yet. Makayla assumed something was wrong and quickly texted their mom at work to try to find out what was going on. Kelsey then had to explain everything to their mom and tried her best to keep the surprise. They drove to Quill Hill, a scenic over look near her home. Carson told Makayla they were just going to walk around and take pictures. After a fairly quiet twelve minute drive they got to the top and helped Makayla out of the car. Kelsey took Makayla’s phone to “take pictures” (video the proposal) and Carson held Makayla’s hand as they walked down a path. He then told her to turn and face the mountains and “look majestic” so he could take her picture. Makayla was very confused but went along with it. Carson then told her to turn around and while down on one knee, asked “Will you marry me?” With tears in her eyes Makayla quickly said, “YES!”.
