On March 5th, 2022, Mairi received a text from a friend inviting her to join a group at a local Chicago bar, Joe’s on Weed. She decided to go not knowing what it would mean for the future. Before she arrived, David was informed that a girl was coming and he should really get to know her... Naturally curious, he tried to look Mairi up on Instagram but quickly hit a roadblock. He had no idea how to spell “Mairi.” When she walked in, the two immediately started talking and were instantly intrigued by each other. It’s worth noting that before heading to Joe’s on Weed, David and his friends had spent the morning at a bottomless brunch... so the drinks were flowing! Throughout the first conversation, David reintroduced himself to Mairi not once, not twice, but three times, each time announcing, “I’m David by the way.” Luckily, Mairi found it more endearing than anything and happily kept the conversation going. They spent the rest of the evening laughing and hanging out with friends. By the end of the night, David asked if he could cook her dinner that Monday, just two days later. Mairi agreed, and the rest.. as they say.. is history! The two made it official a few weeks later on March 23rd. Fast forward three years, David and Mairi set off on their first big European adventure together. Now, you might be thinking: Europe trip… three years in… sounds like proposal time! You’d be right. David managed to keep the surprise under wraps until the very last stop in Florence, Italy. Florence held a special place in David’s heart since he studied abroad there, and he wanted to create a new memory for the two of them together. He told Mairi they were going to “drink wine and watch the sunset,” but as they wandered through the steep hillsides, she noticed he seemed a little nervous… and slightly unsure of where they were going. Turns out, David had secretly coordinated with a photographer waiting at a specific spot. When they finally arrived, he dropped to one knee and asked Mairi to marry him. They celebrated the rest of the trip as fiancés with the most incredible photos (and memories) to cherish forever.
