MaiHan's journey began in Vietnam, where she was born before moving to America at the age of two. After living in California and Florida, her family settled in Indiana. Kodi, on the other hand, was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and later moved to Lafayette for school at the age of 18. He bought his first house at 22, sharing it with two roommates who unwittingly played matchmakers. One summer afternoon in 2019, MaiHan's friend invited her over to hang out at Kodi's house across the street. That day marked the first meeting of Kodi and MaiHan, whose paths had unknowingly crossed. Despite MaiHan's upcoming study abroad trip to Colombia, Kodi couldn't resist inviting her to share a fireside evening on his patio upon her return. That night, Kodi expressed his feelings for MaiHan, setting the course for their inseparable bond. From celebrating 4th of July together to embarking on canoe trips and countless adventures, their love grew stronger over the next four years. When MaiHan's family planned a trip back to Vietnam to visit relatives, little did she know Kodi had orchestrated a surprise of his own. He flew to Vietnam immediately after her departure and surprised her at a café with a heartfelt proposal, sealing their journey together with a promise for the future.

After 11 years, MaiHan finally got the chance to travel to Vietnam with her family and visit relatives in the motherland. For months, she begged Kodi to come with but he has said it would be difficult to request work off for that long of a trip. Little did she know, Kodi had came to her parent's nail salon and asked for their blessings. Kodi traveled alone to Vietnam to meet MaiHan on her first day back in the city of Long Khanh, where she was born 24 years ago. Kodi met MaiHan's dad at the airport in Saigon, rode an hour to her family's hometown of Long Khanh, and met MaiHan at a koi fish coffee shop, where she blissfully thought she was just having a nice coffee date with her mom and aunt. Within their first 30 seconds of seeing eachother, Kodi got on one knee and popped the question.
