Luke and I met outside of my apartment building for our first official date. As the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning to rage in March of 2020, Luke and I had no choice but to simply walk around my neighborhood for the date. By the end of our walking date, we both knew something special was happening. Luke spent the day after our first date gathering various items for a COVID-19 care package (e.g., hand sanitizer, cheese he had referenced on the date) for me. He left the care package with the doorman of my apartment building, and I knew that I was interested because I wished he had stayed to see me instead of just leaving it.
For our second anniversary, Luke met me at the front of my apartment building and we retraced our first date walking route. When we returned to my apartment, I opened the door and my apartment floor was covered in rose petals. There were also candles on my coffee table with petals arranged in the shape of a heart. He then gave me a care package gift bag (like he had after the first date). At the bottom of the gift bag was a ring box. Luke pulled out the box and opened it. He got down on one knee and half-cried, half-choked out “I love you with all of my heart. Will you marry me?” – before he could get it all out, I yelled “I will” … which didn’t seem right so I went with “Yes” and then I said “I do” for some reason. We were both laughing and tearing up and hugging. It was the perfect proposal for us!
