We met on Bumble in 2022, at a point when we were both pretty over online dating. Stephen asked Maggie what neighborhood she lived in. She said Greenpoint and asked him the same. When he replied, she left him on read, not as a test, just because she was tired of endless small talk and wanted to meet in person. Stephen followed up with, “So… is that a dealbreaker?” It wasn’t. They checked their schedules and realized the only day that worked that week was the same day they were talking- Valentine’s Day. They met that night at Twins Lounge in Greenpoint and immediately hit it off. Three dates later, they went to a Weyes Blood concert and both knew this felt different. A few months later, they made it official. Before meeting Maggie’s mom for the first time, Stephen showed up with a hand-drawn portrait of Maggie, which pretty much sealed the deal.
After a very busy stretch focused on Maggie’s business, we decided to take a break and plan a trip together. We knew we wanted a national park, and Glacier National Park in Montana had been at the top of Maggie’s list for years. Stephen took over the planning and decided the best moment would be sunrise on Going-to-the-Sun Road. We woke up at 4 a.m. and drove through clouds and mountains as the sun slowly came up—quiet, cold, and completely worth it. When we reached the spot Stephen had picked, there was one other hiker around, so he suggested walking a little off the beaten path. He set up a tripod, claiming it was for a photo, but was actually recording a video. Then he got down on one knee. Maggie was shocked, very happy, and immediately said yes. It was quiet, thoughtful, and exactly how Stephen does things.
