How we met

Chris and I met one chilly winter evening at a small get-together. We played darts, exchanged a few looks, and both pretended not to notice how much we were noticing each other. As the night wrapped up, I went outside to clean off my car—it had just snowed—and, to my surprise, he was also “leaving.” What I didn’t know at the time was that Chris had actually been hoping to catch me before I drove off, so we could have a one-on-one conversation. As I was scraping off the snow, I could tell he wanted to say something, but neither of us knew how to start. I finally broke the ice by nervously commenting, “Wow, it’s cold.” Yep, that was the best thing I could come up with. But he responded with, “Did you have fun tonight?” And from that shy interaction, we’ve been inseparable ever since. Our first date was supposed to be a simple dinner, but I was feeling a little nervous and didn’t want the attention of strangers on us, so I suggested we grab Five Guys Burgers and Fries and drive to the airport lookout in Londonderry to watch the stars and planes land. We spent hours talking, getting to know each other, and realizing just how much we enjoyed each other’s company. Our second “date” wasn’t really a date at all, but more of a favor. I had bought a rug from Facebook Marketplace in Manchester and didn’t feel safe picking it up alone, so I asked Chris if he’d come with me. Without hesitation, he dropped what he was doing, drove over from Epping, NH, and helped me haul the giant carpet into my Subaru Forester. The last four years have been full of adventures—riding on Chris’s motorcycle, going to concerts, attending football games, and even making a trip to Disney World with my family. From shy strangers to best friends who can turn even a trip to the grocery store into a fun date, we’ve been lucky enough to grow together. After four wonderful years and counting, we couldn’t be more excited to tie the knot and officially become Mr. and Mrs. DeToro.
