Our favorite neighborhood cafe for reading, grabbing a cup of coffee on our way to Lake Bde Maka Ska, or working on the weekend. We have spent many happy Sunday afternoons here.
Funky breakfast diner with very limited bar seating. One of our favorites when we first started dating...and whenever we want a whole lot of hashbrowns.
Just so, so, so good. One time we ate at the Revival in Minneapolis twice in a week because we wanted Tyler and Chaporn AND Bob and Lora Lee to experience the fried chicken.
Classic south Minneapolis gem. Maggie recommends the savory waffle (there's a GF option). When Maggie's Aunt Sarah, Uncle Ron, and Grandma Ruth Briehl came to town they highly approved. Grandma declared the Eggs Benedict the best she'd had.
Home of the classic Spoon and Cherry sculpture. Fabulous for a leisurely walk. Free.
Free! Giant! Beautiful!
More recently known as Lake Calhoun, this lake has been returned to the name given to it by the Dakota people. Bde Maka Ska has a perfect 3.1 mile walking path and connects to Lake Harriet, Lake of the Isles and other sites. Maggie and Evan have enjoyed many walks, runs, picnics, and bike rides here.
Classic bowling alley where you score your own games. Excellent pub food and beer on tap. Home of Evan's 30th birthday party.
"The" spot for fish and chips. Always busy so expect a wait, but well worth it. Eat there or grab take-out to bring with you to chow down at nearby breweries (we love Dangerous Man Brewing).
A Minneapolis landmark burger joint. Matt's serves "Jucy Lucy's," a molten hot burger with cheese inside the meat instead of on top, resulting in a melted core of cheese
A pizza joint we love. Fear not! They have a great gluten-free crust that folks like Maggie can enjoy.
Sweet little eatery, incredible waterfall, winding path down to the river, lots of space to explore. Highly recommend.
Minnesota's most well-known music venue. First Ave was used as the location for many scenes in Prince's Purple Rain. Enough said.
We come here for the sausage. And the bourbon. And the sausage.
Unique punk rock record store. They also have a nice metal and proto-punk selection. Volunteer-run co-op and all profits are reinvested into the store and the local punk community!
It's just great. Inexpensive. Great pho, vermicelli noodle salad, spring rolls. Just go.
Great music venue to see world music, as well as lesser known independent artists. Located near the West Bank campus of the U of M, The Cedar was one of Evan's favorites during law school.
Our favorite Thai for eating out or in. Mama Briehl approved and introduced to us thanks to Tom Witt and Mary Preus. Order the green curry.
Fabulous place to walk - the bridge is pedestrian only and gorgeous and there are fun shops and restaurants to explore on the north side of the river. $10 says you'll see someone getting engagement, wedding, or senior pictures taken.
No better way to pass the time than exploring an independent bookstore —and it’s near the chain of lakes and fun restaurants and shops. One time we went here because Maggie was too grouchy to enjoy the movie we’d planned to see. Another time we went here to each buy a book about marriage. We highly recommend it as a plane to spend some time, no matter your mood.
Sweet coffee shop with yummy baked goods -- including GF options! Near the zoo if you need a place to relax between events
