Iglesia de la Merced

The church Mafer & Joey have chosen to exchange their vows is an official UNESCO site. These baroque style church was originally build in 1548 but was destroyed in an earthquake. It was rebuilt and dedicated in 1767. The reception will be held in the convent of the church which houses a second story terrace with incredible views of the city and volcanos. The terraces will be closed during the reception, however, the church offers ticket sales to access to the terrace during the day and we highly recommend visiting before or after the wedding.

Parque Central

Antigua’s Central Park is a historic landmark busy with local vendors, shops and restaurants. Antigua’s primary Catholic Church overlooks the park, Venture to the center of the park to see the interesting water fountain. Perfect for walking, shopping and people watching.

Cerro la Cruz (Hill of the Cross)

Take a walk up to the cross that overlooks Antigua. Nomads Beyond link provides great information to access the starting point.

Great adventure tour options including hikes, bikes & kayaks. They are famous for their Volcano Fuego & Acatenango overnight hike with sunset & sunrise at 13,000 feet while admiring the active Fuego. The Volcano Pacaya hike is less strenuous with the overnight or day options. Both volcanos are active and gorgeous! We recommend contacting the agency in advance to ensure availability. If you have questions, ask Steve or Dawn-Marie for insight from others who have done the hikes.

Mafer loves McDonald’s is his favorite food, this McDonald’s is listed as the cutest in the world. Gorgeous gardens with the long lost 1970s McDonald’s cast. Fun Fact-Guatemala is the home of the first Happy Meal in 1979. McDonald’s Corporation adopted the concept worldwide in 1982.

Doña María Gordillo

According to The Lady Abroad, Dulcería de Doña María Gordillo has been making traditional Guatemalan sweets since 1872. It’s an iconic, family-run establishment with time-honored recipes and is beautifully decorated with antiques. There’s always a line outside of locals queueing for their fill of coconut confections, candied yams, stuffed figs, and more. The Netflix travel and food show Somebody Feed Phil just filmed there in December 2024! Unfortunately there are no gluten free options.

Great food, casual vibes. Breakfast, lunch & dinner. Wonderful food variety. And the gluten free pizza is great!

Casa Escobar Antigua (Restaurant)

Phenomenal steak house in Guatemala. It’s one of Mafer’s family favorites and the Ciardiello’s love it too! If you’re a seafood lover, we recommend the salmon carpaccio. It’s scrumptious!
