FAQs

As of Feb 11, 2021: The cases in Greater Male’ region continues to rise. At this point, we are not sure whether a ceremonial gathering/event will be held to celebrate our nuptials but we will continue to update the website as we know more. ----- We will strive to provide the most up to date information regarding travel and accommodation resources, COVID-19 restrictions from associated ministries as well as important Cultural Do's & Don'ts. While we will try to be as thorough as possible, we urge in-person guests making plans to celebrate with us to verify information directly with the relevant Immigration, Tourism and Health authorities, in order to protect themselves and local guests. We stress that our highest priority is the health and safety of our guests.
Question

How does the COVID-19 pandemic affect Travel to and from Maldives?

Answer

International travel: All entrants must register online with Maldivian Immigration authorities before arrival and produce negative RT-PCR test results for COVID-19 taken within 96 hours prior to departure. Visas are currently being issued on arrival. Please confirm with Immigration authorities about specific visa requirements. It appears current restrictions for Tourists travelling directly to resorts are exempt from quarantine. Other visitors/tourists to the Greater Malé area (the location of planned ceremony), must undergo a 10-day home quarantine. Any person staying for over 48 hours in the Greater Malé region requires a pre-departure COVID-19 test within 72 hours before leaving the Maldives. Effective from 27th January 2021, persons travelling from Greater Malé Area to other inhabited islands must observe mandatory quarantine of 10 days https://covid19.health.gov.mv/new-restrictive-measures-to-safeguard-against-covid-19-27-1-2021/?c=0

Question

Where should I quarantine?

Answer

If public gathering restrictions are lifted and a confirmed ceremony is announced, we highly recommend guests to quarantine in Hulhumale' upon arrival for 10 days. Hulhumale' island is part of the Greater Male' area. There are many wonderful quest houses/hotels you can choose from. Airbnb, Agora, Booking.com or any travel website will have great options to choose from to stay in Hulhumale'. Make sure to pick Hulhumale' and not Male'. While Male' (the capital of Maldives) is awesome, Hulhumale' has a more island-feel, is more spacious and has better beaches. And also Male' is easily accessible from Hulhumale' via the bridge or by ferry! Once you have decided on a guesthouse, contact them regarding any additional COVID-related restrictions that they may have in place.

Question

Can I attend the Wedding Ceremony?

Answer

We have re-set a date for April 8, 2021 for a formal ceremony that will be an intimate event, especially given current COVID-19 restrictions in the Greater Male' area that prohibit public gatherings. Effective from 27th January 2021, all events, parties, and gatherings in Greater Malé Area are to be halted. We are not sure if we will be allowed to have a reception for family and friends who would wish to attend with these restrictions in place.

Question

If a ceremony does happen in the Greater Male' area what's next for me?

Answer

Once the celebrations are over, you can either continue to stay in Hulhumale' or choose to stay at one of the many beautiful resorts that Maldives has to offer! If you plan on staying at a resort, contact them directly to figure out what the procedures are regarding going from Greater Male' area to the resort (Eg: Do you need a PCR test? Can you even go to the resort after staying in Greater Male' area? etc.).

Question

If I do travel to the Greater Male' area in Maldives, what should I be aware of?

Answer

A strictly Muslim country, the Maldives has a list of prohibited items that will not be allowed past customs. These include alcohol, any kind of drugs, pork, religious or pornographic materials for distribution, and dogs. Public displays of affection on non-resort islands such as Malé City are considered extremely offensive and may result in punitive action. On inhabited islands, women should keep their shoulders and legs covered and men may want to opt for long pants instead of shorts. Bikinis and topless sunbathing are strictly prohibited outside of non-resort islands, but once you’re at your resort, feel free to bust out your vacation swimsuit! With a 100% Muslim population, strict fasting is observed by everyone during the month of Ramadan (which begins April 12th 2021) from sunrise to sunset. Because of this, many restaurants may be closed during the day. If you are on an inhabited island, avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public.

Question

Will we have a zoom link on the big day?

Answer

Oh yes! We will update the website with a zoom-link closer to the date :)

For all the days along the way
