This is Mary's favorite tourist trap in St. Augustine. It is a Pirate museum that has guided tours performed by Pirates! They have stories about the coolest pirates and actual ancient pirate artifacts. There is also a special Jack Sparrow item in the museum. As a guide once said "the air Johnny Depp breathed when he gave us this might still be in this room”. Need we write more?
You will enjoy strolling around the ruins of this fort. It is really cool to catch the performance of the crew shooting an actual cannon into the Matanzas River. It is even cooler to watch it from the river on a Waverunner ;)
Mary did this with her friends several years ago. They totally saw a ghost. Worth every penny. You get to explore St. Augsutine's creepiest places at night! All while traveling in a cool train listening to corny and ghostly tales.
We have camped here and we have come for just the day. It is an awesome beach with white sand and within walking distance from the Amphitheater, where they host the Farmer's Market every Saturday! For our camping trip we bought our veggies and a fresh piece of salmon that Luis cooked over the grill. Best salmon we have ever had.
It is an awesome shopping strip. We have had great crepes at Mimi's Famous Crepes, the best beef jerky at Olde Town Jerky, and some good ice cream at Mayday Icecream. We also tried Pizza Time, it supposedly is the #2 Best Pizza in America, this cash only restaurant did not meet our expectations for best pizza but at least we can say we tried the second best pizza in USA.
This bridge is very cool looking. Right before sunset, they open the drawbridge to let a big Pirate Ship through, for sunset tours. It is one of our favorite things to see.
We toured this museum for a possible reception venue. It is huge! Among their exhibitions, Mary really liked the stuffed lion and Luis loved checking out the 1887 indoor pool that has now been converted to a reception hall.
We also toured this resort as a possible wedding venue. It is a Spanish inspired hotel with awesome art exhibits around the lobby. The rooms were interesting but kind of smelly (it is an old hotel). They also have a Starbucks downstairs , which makes the trip worth it.
ABSOLUTE BEST BAKERY EVER. the Chef and staff are amazingly nice. We tried so many desserts when we went for our cake tasting and LOVED them all. Mary's favorite was the Blueberry Lavander Honey macaron, Luis really enjoyed the Midnight Espresso Dessert Shot, and Mary's mom loved the Oatmeal Creampie. You HAVE to check this place out if you get a chance.
This place is weird. We went, we saw, we were traumatized; there are some real messed up scenes in there. Check it out, if you're into dark stuff...
This place has a FREE self guided tour through the distillery where you get to try their vodka, rum, and bourbon for FREE. Yes, free alcohol. No appointment needed, open 7 days a week 10am to 6pm.
This school is located in St. George street. You will not miss it while walking around, it is the creepiest looking wooden building on that street. It gets interesting when you find out it was established in the 1700's!!
We ate at this restaurant when we were trying to find a place to do our welcome drinks event. The food was good but it was a very slow service. We learned that this restaurant has the same food that our wedding will have. The restaurant is pretty and we sat outside under the pergola. We had a branch fall on us after lunch so be careful when choosing a seating place just because it looks pretty!
We visited this place when we did the tasting for our wedding. They have a cute tea room in the back and a lot of cocktails to taste.
We had brunch here and the Cuban sandwich is the only thing we will recommend form the menu.
