It was just another typical day at work, hanging out with some buddies and folding clothes. One of my friends nudges me and I look over. This attractive girl walks by us, and my friend was like duddee shes hot! I smiled and agreed. He decided to go over and talk to this girl to try to get her number. He comes back a minute later and I ask how it went. He told me she "had a boyfriend" (something every guy has heard) and he didn't get her number. I laughed and went about my day. A few weeks later that girl started working at Hollister and I ran into her in the fitting rooms. I was like I need to get to know this hot chick so I preceded to talk to her. It led to nothing, because it turned out that she actually did have a boyfriend. As time went by, we became friends. I had a crush on her for a long time, but she was taken. I eventually transferred to UC San Diego and we didn't keep in touch anymore. About a year later, I randomly get a facebook message from her that she was transferring to San Diego State University and was asking for advice about the area (I think she secretly just wanted to talk to me). She transferred to SDSU and we started to hang out again except this time she was single :] At first we were just friends, but one night I invited her to come to a party with me. We decided to get a ride from a friend, so she parked her car at the Vons grocery store next to my apartment(I told her it was a safe spot to park). We go to the party, have fun, and come back. Turns out Vons was not a good spot to park (sorry babe). Her car was towed and she wasn't too thrilled (she also had work that morning). So I offered to give her a ride home and to work the next morning. After she got off work, I picked her up and told her I'd help pay for car if she took me to Chipotle in the next few days. We went to Chipotle the next day and we essentially had our first date (yeah I know, not very romantic). But we really hit it off and started dating within a few weeks!
I will start by saying I had a feeling this would be the proposal weekend. He had been dropping hints all summer and this was the only weekend that made sense. Clue 1: He asked me “What are good ways to propose?” Clue 2: He wrote me a birthday card apologizing that he didn’t have something better; his reasoning was that he was poor, and I would "know why by Christmas”. Clue 3: We made a wedding guest list IN SEPTEMBER! Josh and I organized a trip to San Diego during Christmas break where we planned to do some of our favorite things. When we got into town, we bee-lined to food, and once we were full, we went to Torrey Pines to hike and take in the views. Since I thought this would be THE weekend, I was hyperaware of any places that could be proposal spots. The hike had the most beautiful lookouts, but it never happened. I was a little disappointed and convinced myself I had thought wrong about the whole thing. We were supposed to meet with Mike and Rachel for dinner, but they were still on the road, so they told us to go without them. We had a romantic dinner, but I didn’t think anything of it because I didn’t want to be wrong again. By the time we finished dinner, our friends had checked into the hotel and we met them in the lobby. Josh said he had to go to the bathroom (classic), so he headed up and I hung out with them downstairs. Mike said Josh texted him saying he lost his ID and needed help finding it before we went out later. We got to the room and I open the door to see rose petals on the ground and it lit only by candles. Shocked, I turned to Rachel and thought “OMG, Mike’s proposing!” She shook her head and I knew! I began to sob, and I walked in to find Josh on the balcony. I think I blacked out because I can only recall him saying something about “ups and downs” and feeling how hard his heart was beating. I must have said yes, because here we are, about to get married! Later, our friends came over and we spent the rest of the night out celebrating!
