Hari and his family would love for guests to wear traditional Indian wedding attire, but if you feel more comfortable in Western clothing, that is completely fine. The most important thing is to wear bright, colorful outfits and comfortable shoes for the baraat (a short parade on the street before the ceremony) and for dancing at the reception! If you’d like to try Indian clothing, the easiest options to wear and dance in are: Women: Lehenga (skirt + top + scarf) Men: Kurta (long tunic) or Sherwani (more formal) If possible, please shop from Indian-owned stores in your community or from Indian-owned websites like Lashkaraa, Kalpraag, Kalki Fashion, MIRRAW, Cbazaar, or House of Indya. Most importantly, have fun, celebrate, and come ready to dance! 🎉💃🕺
Traditionally, for a Hindu Gujarati wedding, it’s best to avoid black. Black: Often considered inauspicious, though some modern couples may wear it. That said, we don’t mind what you wear! We just wanted to share these traditions so you can make an informed choice and feel comfortable. Vibrant, festive colors like reds, greens, yellows, oranges, pinks, blues, and purples - rich, pastel, or jewel tones - are all wonderful if you want to embrace the traditional celebration colors.
