Things To Do

There are plenty of places to shop, eat & drink and archeological sites in the area. All 3 resorts recommended have private beaches you can enjoy. We do not recommend public beaches due to safety issues. The key areas to check out include the capital city of Chennai with it Portuguese churches, British Forts, Museums, shopping districts and restaurants. Other cities in the area include 1) Pondicherry (Once an ancient roman port city, then the French capital), 2) Mamallapurm (an ancient, rock-cut temple city with archeological ruins) and 3) Kanchipuram, a UNESCO heritage center with many temples. We have put together a map here. Dakshina Chitra Museum

A heritage museum close to the wedding venue that showcases local architecture. They also have a number of cultural events such as street theatre and dance. Please check their website for updated events schedule.

St. Thomas Mount

St.Thomas Mount, TN 600016, India

A small church in the city of Chennai where it is believed St Thomas, the Apostle was martyred.

Santhome Cathedral Basilica

38 Santhome High Road, Chennai, TN 600004, India

First built by Portuguese explorers in 1523 on the tomb of St Thomas, it was later rebuilt by the British in 1896. We highly recommend a visit.

Defenitely recommended for history buffs. Has artefacts dating back almost 3000 years.

Shore Temple

Built in 725 AD the architecture is stunning and from madhu's favorite period in Indian history!

A walkable neighbourhood in the French city of Pondicherry with cafe's, art galleries, shopping districts and some cool architecture

Auroville

Auroville, TN, India

An experimental township founded in the 60's by a French spiritual guru. It is a walkable town with farm-to-table cafes, organic farms, and a central meditation center.
