4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Casual, Temple bay is a tourist spot and there are no restrictions
NOTE: This event has been cancelled. Apologies! A trip will be organized to Pondicherry instead of the Mehndi. We will share the details with guests shortly. Although not a traditional part of South Indian ceremony, this is a pre-wedding celebration that has become a standard throughout the country. The bride and other women will have special designs drawn on their hands and feet using henna. Although men are welcome to attend, they will likely be spectators in this event designed mainly for women. This will be a casual affair, with no dress codes, taking place outdoors in Temple Bay resort, and will last 2-3 hours starting 4PM in the afternoon. Fisherman’s cove is a tourist friendly place and therefore you can feel free to wear any clothing you are comfortable in. As it will take place outside, plan for warmer weather. Light refreshments will be served along with alcohol.
1:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Casual, Let us know if you would like Indian clothing and we can arrange.
Note: This event has changed. We will now organize the Mehndi starting from 1:30 - 4:30, followed by engagement at 5PM. Snacks will be provided at 2PM followed by dinner at 7PM. No alcohol will be served at this event. This is a traditional south Indian engagement ceremony where the two families get together and exchange coconuts and betel leaves in the presence of a priest and the elders in the family, as a promise to join their families together. Then the bride and groom exchange rings also in front of witnesses. Finally, the priest reads out the announcement of the engagement in front of the guests making it official. This will start around 5:30PM, lasting around 1-2 hours and will take place at Rina’s wedding venue. Indian dinner will be served on banana leaves.
7:00 am - 2:00 pm
This is the main wedding event. This will take place also at Rina’s wedding venue and will start at 7AM. The ‘muhurtham’ or the holy time when the main ritual will take place symbolized by the groom tying the yellow thread around the bride’s neck will take place at 9:30AM. At this instant, usually everyone is present to throw rice on the bride and groom and bless them. The rituals will last all morning until around 1PM. Traditional breakfast and lunch will be served on banana leaves and no alcohol will be served. There is no dress code but we can arrange for traditional Indian clothes for those interested. We will also hire some people or have women there that can help you dress in a saree if you are interested.
