How We Met

Love at First "Like"

September 8th, 2019 In 2019, Matthew and Madeline were both navigating the world of online dating through Hinge. After a bit of scrolling, Matthew came across Madeline’s profile and sent a “like” her way. She replied, but not in the way he expected. Matthew’s profile included a prompt asking matches to list five things without naming the category, leaving the other person to guess the connection. Instead of giving a straightforward answer, Madeline decided to have some fun with it. Madeline listed five completely unrelated items, leaving Matthew determined to figure out the connection. After running through every possibility he could think of, he finally gave in only to learn there was no connection whatsoever. It was all a ploy to test his sense of humor. That lighthearted exchange ended up being the perfect start to something real. Their first date was at The Bungalow in Huntington Beach, where conversation flowed easily. Hours passed without either of them noticing, until the staff politely mentioned they were closing. That one night would be the start of several years filled with countless shared memories, new adventures, and a deep, lasting connection. From one Hinge “like” to planning a lifetime together, they’re now engaged and ready to say “I do.” Thanks, Hinge. Looks like the algorithm got it right.

The Proposal

Matthew Popped the Question!

June 22nd, 2024 In the weeks leading up to the proposal, Madeline’s friend Madison crafted a clever cover story to keep the surprise. She told Madeline she’d won a luxurious beachside picnic experience at a gala and invited Madeline and Matthew to join. To make the occasion feel special, Madison suggested Madeline wear something nice so they could take photos by the water. Between that and Matthew making “mysterious” phone calls, Madeline’s suspicions grew, but she had no idea what was really coming. On the drive to Crystal Cove State Beach, Matthew was unusually quiet. He’d insisted on bringing a heavy jacket, even though it was 80 degrees outside, explaining he wanted to be “prepared in case it got cold later.” What Madeline didn’t know was the jacket was hiding something far more important: the engagement ring. Matthew thought he was keeping it cool, but his nervous energy was already giving him away. When they arrived, Madeline and Matthew took a scenic walk toward the shore. As they got closer, Madeline was surprised to see hundreds of roses arranged around a cozy picnic lounge, complete with a chilled bottle of celebratory champagne. It was in that moment that Matthew dropped to one knee and asked the most important question of his life. Madeline’s joyful “Yes!” was just the beginning. Matthew called out to her closest friends, who had been quietly waiting nearby after helping set up the perfect proposal. As they appeared, cheering and celebrating, the moment grew even more special. But the night wasn’t over yet. After some photos, Matthew mentioned there was one more surprise in store. As they drove toward Balboa Island, Madeline suddenly realized they were headed to her late grandmother’s house—a place filled with cherished memories. When they arrived, their closest family and friends were waiting to celebrate a surprise engagement party, marking the start of their next chapter together. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. A perfect start to their forever.
