Planting Fields Arboretum
If you're down for a nice stroll and some pretty scenery, head over to the Planting Fields Arboretum. Just 12 minutes by Uber from the hotel, this New York State Historic Park covers over 400 acres. The park today sits on the grounds of what once was William Robertson Coe's Gilded Age estate.

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site
A native of New York City, Theodore Roosevelt spent many summers of his youth on extended vacations with his family in the Oyster Bay area. In 1880, he purchased 155 acres of land on Cove Neck, a small peninsula roughly 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of the hamlet of Oyster Bay. In 1884, Theodore Roosevelt hired the New York architectural firm of Lamb & Rich to design a shingle-style, Queen Anne home for the property. The 22-room house was completed in 1886 for $16,975 (equal to $483,033 today), and Roosevelt moved into the house in 1887. Roosevelt had originally planned to name the house "Leeholm" after his wife, Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt. However, she died in 1884 and Roosevelt remarried in 1886, so he decided to change the name to "Sagamore Hill". Sagamore is the Algonquin word for chieftain, the head of the tribe.

Nassau County Museum of Art
Sitting on 145 acres, the Nassau County Museum of Art (NCMA) is located on the former Frick "Clayton" Estate, though before that the land was part of the estate of William Cullen Bryant, long time editor of the New York Evening Post, and also a poet, lawyer, conservationist, political activist, and patron of the arts. The main museum building is a three-story Georgian-style mansion that exemplifies Gold Coast architecture of the late 19th century. In addition to the mansion, NCMA includes The Manes Family Art & Education Center, opened in 2017, as well as a Formal Garden, rare specimen trees and marked walking trails, and a Sculpture Park. The sculpture park is currently one of the largest publicly-accessible sculpture parks in the Northeast.

Cradle of Aviation Museum
One of Maddy's favorite local places, the Cradle of Aviation is located on the land that was once part of the Mitchell Air Force Base and is around the corner from Roosevelt Field, where Charles Lindbergh's historic transatlantic flight to Paris took off from. In fact, so many seminal flights occurred in the area immediately surrounding the museum that, by the mid-1920s, this cluster of airfields was already dubbed the "Cradle of Aviation." The museum walks visitors through the history of air and space travel.

This cute little tea room is Maddy's favorite hang out spot on Long Island. The atmosphere of this vegan-friendly spot is straight out of a Wiccan dream. The Witches Brew has that perfect, cozy vibe for an summer evening. They are open late, but be warned - the line on a Saturday night will be around the block!

Cedarmere is the Gold Coast Estate of the most acclaimed editor of the New York Evening Post (now called the New York Post - oh, how the mighty do fall...). The grounds of the estate are open to the public year round. The house is also open for tours, but they don't have regular hours, so if you would like to see the house we advise you to call in advance.

For nearby shops, cafes, and restaurants, check out the local villages of Glen Cove or Oyster Bay. The Village of Glen Cove is a 3 minute Uber ride from the hotel and is home to Henry's Confectionery (8 Glen St.)--a great spot for brunch! Alternatively, if you are going to see Sagamore Hill, the nearby village of Oyster Bay is a cute spot for lunch.
