Spencer had been attending college in Santa Clara and was home for the summer. I had stayed in Davis to work on campus while waiting for school to start again in the fall. My childhood friend, Spencer Fairgrieve, had planned to visit for the weekend and mentioned knowing a nice boy who lived across the hall from her at school. Upon realizing how close he was in Sacramento (and how good we would be together) she cooked up a plan to "casually" set us up over her visit. Little did I know, he was more than in on it! That weekend, the three of us met at the Davis Farmer's Market to enjoy some local treats. We spent the whole day sharing good stories, bad jokes, and absolutely delicious food. We even went on our own mini excursion through the back fields of Dixon and wound up somewhere outside of Winters. It seemed like a simple and exciting way to spend the day, but it turned into a silly and unforgettable adventure. It's also one of the reasons why Spencer and I love the area so much to this day! Without realizing it at the time, my oldest friend had just introduced me to my future husband.
We had been planning on getting out of the city for a while as the COVID-19 restrictions were beginning to ease up around us. As we typically do, we decided, "What better relief than an outdoor adventure?" So we packed our bags, and set out for a day near Lake Tahoe. We picked a hike through an area of Echo Lake rightfully deemed "Little Norway." It was easily the most beautiful place we have ever had the pleasure of exploring. As the march up the mountain continued, my hopes really started to grow! I thought to myself, "Oh, this must be it..." Much to my dismay, it was not. However, the day was still young! We wanted to take advantage of the beautiful drive to South Lake Tahoe and decided to make our way to town. When I began to realize where we were heading, Spencer pulled off the beaten path (much to my surprise) into our favorite little mountain resort: Sorensen's. It's a cozy little place we went to when we first started dating four years ago. At this point, I'm nearly jumping out of my skin with anticipation and glee! When we walked up to our cozy cabin for the night, I was softly stopped on the front porch. With the cool spring air in our lungs and the quiet woods around us, we were in our happy place. It was here that he finally popped the question! It was an incredibly intimate moment that we will share for the rest of our lives. We can't wait to share our next special day with you!
