When Maddie packed her bags from Boise in 2020, she nearly ended up on the other side of the country. Instead, she landed in Las Vegas. Just two months later, Drew moved into the desk across from Maddie in the newsroom at FOX 5 Vegas. But they hadn’t met yet. Little did they know, on a winter day in 2021, their lives were about to change. Here’s how Drew remembers it: on his first week on the job, he was sent out to shadow a talented reporter. When he arrived, he saw a focused and beautiful woman ready for a hard-hitting interview. Here’s how Maddie remembers it: Not expecting a new hire to be shadowing her that day, she was sort of a deer in the headlights when she saw Drew. She was immediately taken with his cute face, bright demeanor, and, of course, his amazing height. Tongue-tied, she asked him, “Are you from the Marketing Department or something?” That’s something Drew would tease her about for years to come. As Drew watched from behind the lens, Maddie made sure to ask her interview subject some really tough questions that day. Maybe she was trying to impress the new guy… just a little bit. After the interview, they chatted more. Drew’s sweetness and sense of humor was quickly apparent to Maddie, and every joke he made was instantly returned with something just as clever. They matched each other’s energies in a way that felt new and exciting… but also, like home. A feeling of familiarity, like they’d known each other for years. A quick friendship started brewing; one that would include trips out to the Arts District breweries for drinks with coworkers. For months, Drew was drawn to Maddie's infectious energy and kind demeanor. He loved her intelligence, how she’s often “the life of the party,” and also a foodie, like him. Maddie loved Drew’s positivity, his heartfelt loyalty, and his charm. They lit up the room for one another. Eventually in time, their chemistry as friends turned into something deeper. They fell in love, and at the end of Maddie’s time in Vegas, decided to take a big leap together. In November 2022, Maddie was offered a job she couldn’t refuse at KING 5 in Seattle. Thankfully, just a few months later when his Vegas contract ended, Drew got hired there as well. He soon made the move, and they were in bliss knowing they could begin a new chapter of their lives together. A big change was not so daunting for Drew, knowing he was with the person who makes anywhere feel like home. They learned to live together, to work through difficult life challenges, and to lean on each other. Life is better when they're together. This January, Drew took Maddie to Las Vegas for her birthday. On the trip, Drew planned a surprise proposal — in the very city where their love first bloomed. The answer, of course, was a resounding yes! Over these 3.5 years, they learned even more about each other through meeting all of you. Like when Drew was welcomed into his first Keck Family Reunion in Coronado, or Maddie spent the weekend in Fremont to help celebrate Grandpa Ed's 90th birthday. They've instantly connected with each other's family and friends, old and new. These special moments are a magical peek inside the rest of their lives.
