We hope you can make the most of your trip to California by spending a few days nearby in San Francisco, wine country, Point Reyes, or so many other nearby destinations before or after your two night stay at Timber Cove with us! Below are some recommendations working your way north from San Francisco to Mendocino. We have done a lot of exploring while living here and would love to help you plan your trip in more detail, so let us know if you need some personalized suggestions!
San Francisco

San Francisco

San Francisco, CA

Do this if you have never been and want to start your trip off with a bang! Eat, shop, see the sites. Some quintessential SF experiences: Golden Gate Bridge Alcatraz Island Golden Gate Park & Japanese Tea Garden Chinatown Pier 39 Fisherman’s Wharf Lombard Street Palace of Fine Arts The Painted Ladies San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) Ferry Building Marketplace North Beach (Little Italy) Baker Beach

Sausalito

Sausalito

Sausalito, CA 94965

Do this if you want a place to stop and eat on your way from SF to Jenner. This is a cute small town right on the water, looking across the bay at SF. Would highly recommend a seafood meal at Fish or Joinery!

Muir Woods National Monument

Muir Woods National Monument

Mill Valley, CA 94941

Do this if you want a beautiful place to stop and stretch your legs as you make your way North from the city. You can enjoy the boardwalk loop under the redwoods for a morning or afternoon activity, or make a day of it and do some longer hikes. Pro tip - you need to make a reservation ahead of time!

Point Reyes National Seashore

Point Reyes National Seashore

CA

Do this if you are looking for an off-the-grid, slow-paced, and nature-forward destination with stunning seaside views and fresh oysters. Would definitely recommend an overnight stay in this area, as it is bigger than it looks and there's lots to do. Point Reyes is one of the most beautiful state parks in CA. It has epic views of the coast! And also a very cute inland town (Point Reyes Station) with good eats, cute shops, cheese tastings, and more. I've stayed at Marconi Lodge and would recommend it - so charming.

Sonoma

Sonoma

Sonoma, CA 95476

Do this for more wine! Winery recs: Bartholomew Estate Gundlach Bundschu Benziger

Napa

Napa

Napa, CA

Do this if you like wine, obviously. Book wine tastings! Vineyard/winery recommendations (places we have been): Amizetta Dakota Shy Whitehall Lane Tres Perlas Sinegal Merryvale

Timber Cove & Jenner Area

Timber Cove & Jenner Area

Timber Cove, CA

Do this if you want to settle in at the hotel and make excursions from there. We'd recommend: Drive up and down Highway 1 for numerous viewpoints and seaside walks. There are a number of beaches & state parks for exploring! Jenner Headlands Preserve (20 mins south of Timber Cove Resort) Cafe Aquatica - seaside meal in a quirky joint River's End Restaurant & Inn - sunset dinner

Mendocino

Mendocino

Mendocino, CA

Do this if you don't mind a longer drive north - approximately 3.5 hrs from SFO Airport. We love Mendocino - it has smalltown, seaside charm but with high-end stays, cute boutique shopping, tasty restaurants, wineries, and coastal walks. Would highly recommend a stay and/or a dinner at Heritage House (pricier but with a spa) or SCP Mendocino Coast Lodge (affordable with views you cannotttt beat and a fantastic restaurant to enjoy at sunset).

For all the days along the way
