Belle Isle Park is a Detroit gem and a Michigan state park. The 987-acre island park features the a conservatory, aquarium, museum, giant slide, athletic fields, picnic areas, tennis courts, a nature Zoo, and more attractions popular with all ages and interests. Plus spectacular views of the Detroit and Windsor skyline. (Easily one of our go-to Detroit spots.)
The Eastern Market area is named for the 19th-century market operating here, with vendors selling everything from tacos to colorful produce every Saturday. Sundays see the space packed with local jewelers and artists. Hip cafes and places serving classic Coney Island hot dogs dot the district whose warehouses are being revitalized with murals. (We HIGHLY recommend checking out the Saturday market as a pre-wedding activity.)
The Dequindre Cut Greenway is an urban recreational path, and is part of the Detroit Riverfront. Formerly a Grand Trunk Railroad line, the Dequindre Cut is a predominately below-street level greenway, just north of the riverfront. Well-known for its examples of urban artwork and graffiti, the greenway features a 20-foot-wide paved pathway, which includes separate lanes for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. (Riding bikes on this path is a must.)
Detroit is a city full of artists who are finding new outlets for their creative talents. In recent years, one of the most beautiful forms of creative expression used to celebrate Detroit has been through visual art in the form of murals. (Fun fact: Roland created a mural tour during his internship in Detroit.)
Motown Museum is the ongoing heartbeat of the Motown legacy—a global tourist destination for music and history fans that celebrates the authentic story of Motown from its humble beginnings, to its emergence as the “Sound of Young America” and beyond.
