Question

"WELL, WHY RICHMOND?"

Answer

As Brian & I are both originally from the Northeast & reside in northern Virginia, some of you may ask the question or have asked already... "Well, Why Richmond?" Good Question! After Brian proposed before Thanksgiving 2016, we had a long car ride up to New Jersey to decide where we wanted to tie the knot. We tossed around ideas of touring various churches & venues in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia, South Carolina, & Virginia. Blame it on being architects, what it all came down to was selecting a place that embodied a modern aesthetic with southern charm. When we decided to stay in VA, Upper Shirley Vineyards stole our hearts as soon as we drove down their cotton lined dusty roads. The vineyard is situated on the James River with long yet wide decks perfect for sipping your favorite glass of wine & relaxing. The building is reminiscent of one of our favorite places to vacation, South Carolina, mixed with a dash of colonial Virginia making it the perfect venue for our wedding.

IS THERE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE HOTELS TO THE SERVICE?

Answer

Transportation will only be provided from the hotel to the wedding reception. It will not be provided from the hotel to the wedding ceremony. The church, St. Peter Catholic Church, is about 0.5 miles from the Courtyard Marriott Downtown. We recommend, if you're up for it and weather permitting, to walk from the hotel to the ceremony. The route will take you through the Virginia State Capital. Just make sure to wear sensible shoes! CAN I BRING A DATE?

Answer

If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you.

WHAT’S THE DRESS CODE?

Answer

The attire is formal. Men do not need to wear a tux, the groom and groomsmen will be in suits. There will be some outdoor spaces for guests to enjoy, so you may want to rethink your stilettos!

HOW DO I TAKE SOMETHING OFF OF THE ZOLA REGISTRY?

Answer

When looking at our registry on Zola, you'll notice that some items are added directly from the Zola website and some are added from other stores (Macy's, BedBath& Beyond, West Elm, etc.). If you buy your gift online, it will automatically remove the item from our registry and mark as purchased. If you decide to buy the gift in a store and not online, to have the gift marked as purchased just go to the website and click on 'I bought this already'. If you have any questions, feel free to message Brian and I and we can give you more directions or mark the item off as purchased on our registry for you.

WHERE DO WE PARK AT THE COURTYARD MARRIOTT OR RESIDENT'S INN?

Answer

If you are driving a car or need to park your rental car overnight the two main hotels recommended so not have a parking garage connected to the hotel. There are a few options for parking. 1. You can park on the street 2. Parking garage across from the Courtyard Marriott for $14 a night 3. Parking garage across from the Resident's Inn for $18 a night

WHAT IS THE MENU FOR THE WEDDING RECEPTION? CAN I SPECIFY FOOD ALLERGIES / SENSITIVITIES?

Answer

The menu for the wedding reception will be: FIRST COURSE Poached Pear & Double Cream Brie Salad Artisan Greens, Candied Walnuts, Parisian Vinaigrette SECOND COURSE Your choice of... Filet Mignon Roasted Garlic Potato Purée, Creamed Collard Greens, Roasted Onion & Tannat Jus Plantation Chicken Gruyere & Dijon Mornay Cornbread & Virginia Ham Crumble, Buttermilk Potato Purée, Roasted Carrots With Haricot Vert Red Snapper Pan Seared with Garlic Butter & Capers, Potato Gratin, Wilted Spinach, Onion Confit There will be space on the RSVP cards to specify each attendees selection for the second course. We will also give you a line to note any food allergies or sensitivities to relay to the chef. The venue said that they can accommodate most allergies for each dish. To be safe, we will double check with the caterer once we receive your RSVP allergy note and dinner specified. Feel free to contact us if you have any further concerns!
