We met a loooooong time ago back in 2014! We were both taking karate classes in Williamsville at the time and would get paired up every so often. After a few months we were at the fall festival together hanging out and Nick got a text asking if he wanted to be her boyfriend! Naturally, in Nick’s awkward nature, he responded with “uhh let me think about it” and the next day he asked her to be his girlfriend. And the rest is history! 10 long years ago at a young 12 and 14 years old and here we are today!

Nick had been plotting the proposal for quite awhile before popping the question! Back in November of 2022, Ed Sheeran released his tour dates for his up coming Mathematics Tour. Nick borrowed his parents credit card to get presale tickets (thanks American Express). He knew at that point he wanted to ask her at that event. He plotted and planned and deflected Mackenzie’s constant pestering about when he was going to ask, all while knowing all along what was in store. So, he patiently waited until after she graduated (her mother’s stipulation) before he started putting his plan in motion. He had Mackenzie take him ring shopping, convincing her that it was her idea when he had been subliminally putting the idea in her head, so he knew what she really liked and what size she was. So, armed with the information from shopping, he went online and began making his own. After staring at the different prototypes waiting to pull the trigger, he finally decided on one and got his mothers seal of approval before making the big purchase. Once the ring arrived, he met with her parents privately to get their permission. With the parents on board, they began plotting then big day with a hidden twist. Mackenzie, maid-of-honor, Josie, and her mom already went and toured the venue just out of “curiosity” and little did she know, Brian, Laurel, and Nick ended up going there and booking the big day on their 10 year anniversary! The only catch was it was a month before he was going to ask the question! Thankfully, the owner said she had seen it a handful of times before where they booked the venue before the engagement, so they weren’t entirely crazy! The week before the big day, Nick started putting the plan in motion. He ordered flowers to be sent to their hotel room in Chicago, and he coordinated it with the hotel to make sure they didn’t arrive until after they were gone. As they left for the concert, he was so nervous they skipped dinner and went straight to Soldier Field! After walking all the way around, he asked a girl sitting on the grass to take their picture and when he handed the phone to her, he had a note reading that he was going to propose! She did a wonderful job capturing the moment and afterwards, Mackenzie was informed that they got a venue scheduled for their anniversary at the place where she already toured! She was ecstatic and they danced the night away at the concert!
