Tahoe City

Tahoe City, CA

Beautiful lakefront town at the mouth of the Truckee River with restaurants, shops and galleries. Tahoe City is the hub for west shore activities. Catch a boat tour on the Tahoe Gal, rent bikes, jump on the lakeshore trail and go for miles. TART offers free transportation around west and north Tahoe. Check their website for routes. Free parking at the transit center.

Truckee

Truckee, CA 96161

Historic railroad town and access point to all things Tahoe. Dining, shopping, art, hiking, biking and water sports all just off I80.

Donner Memorial State Museum

Check out the Donner Memorial State Park Visitor Center while you're in town. It’s a great spot to learn about the area's pioneer history and the Transcontinental Railroad, with some nice walking trails right along the lake.

Meeks Bay

For a perfect beach day, head to Meeks Bay on the scenic West Shore! There is a paid parking lot on-site that fills up quickly; however, you can also find free parking along Highway 89 just outside the resort entrance.

Sugar Pine State Park

Emerald Bay

Emerald Bay is a must-see for its breathtaking turquoise waters and the lake's only island, Fannette Island.

Shirley Canyon Trailhead

For a challenging but rewarding adventure, take on the Shirley Canyon Trail at Palisades Tahoe. This roughly 3.6 to 5-mile climb winds past cascading waterfalls and granite boulders to high-alpine Shirley Lake.

Eagle Rock Trailhead

For a short hike head to Eagle Rock on the West Shore. This 0.7-mile trail offers a quick climb to breathtaking panoramic views in under 30 minutes

Five Lakes Trail

This 5-mile round-trip trek winds through granite peaks to a cluster of serene, hidden lakes—perfect for a picnic or a quick dip.

Donner Lake

Truckee, CA 96161

Donner Lake in Truckee is a premier destination for relaxation, offering 37 public docks on the north shore for swimming and sunbathing. The area features family-friendly sandy spots at the west end (fee required) and historical hiking at Donner Memorial State Park on the east end.

West Lake Tahoe Walking/Bike Path

A leisurely 10.31-mile walk or ride that connects Tahoe City to Sugar Pine State Park. This mostly flat, paved path offers a unique way to experience the West Shore, weaving through towering pines and offering plenty of spots to stop for a lakeside lunch or a quick swim

Truckee River Rafting

Rent a raft or bring your own tubes and float the Truckee River! This leisurely five-mile journey begins just below Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City and winds through scenic meadows and mild rapids before ending at the River Ranch Lodge & Restaurant.
