We were in the same freshman dorm (Slichter Residence Hall), on the same floor at UW. Spring semester rolled around and we found ourselves in the same math lecture and discussion. Mackenzie decided to sit by Collin during discussion as he was the only familiar face, but he often needed to glance at her paper to remember her name. Small talk turned into walks back to Slichter to eventual lunch dates. On May 11, Collin asked Mackenzie to be his girlfriend while studying in the library for finals. The rest is history!
After seven years of dating and school finally completed for both of them, Collin decided it was time to pop the question. Collin planned a date to an apple orchard - Appleberry Farm - to pick apples. He led Mackenzie into a small, private patch of apple trees and handed her a small piece of paper. It was a coupon from the coupon book that Mackenzie had given Collin for their first Valentine's Day. It read "This coupon is good for anything. Choose carefully." When Mackenzie looked up from the paper, Collin was down on one knee and asked Mackenzie to spend forever with him. She nodded continuously and said "yes!" Masks were removed and a kiss was shared!
A destination wedding was agreed on quickly by the couple. Both families have a strong connection to Ireland. Collin's grandma, Mary Ellen, is 100% Irish and Mackenzie's grandpa, Pat, cherished his Irish heritage.
