Still very hot in the afternoons, but drastically cools down after dark. Pack your shorts AND your jacket!

How about the drive?

Answer

Midland to Alpine: Lot's of oilmen for the first half, beautiful beyond. 2 1/2 hours. Only one bathroom stop! In Monahans. Cell Service can be spotty. El Paso to Alpine: Beautiful four hour drive. One Border patrol stop past El Paso. Two bathrooms breaks in between - but no cell service beyond Van Horn.

Can I use my phone?

Answer

Well..... Verizon and AT&T cover Alpine and Marathon. If you're under another service, you might look for a hotel with wifi.
