A Kistler Family favorite! If you have spent time with the Kistler's in Maine you know they go here every. single. night. In 2021 Charlie joined in on the fun & decided to not eat the same flavor twice. His top pick - Black Raspberry Chip in a waffle cone Her top pick - Black Raspberry & Peppermint Stick on a plain cone *Make sure you go to the big white barn, not a stand that carries Round Top. You will miss out on lots of flavors! Plus there is a great gift shop to get Maine souvenirs*
Right down the street from the Kistler Family Compound! This Maine brewing company is located in Newcastle, Maine. It feels like it's in the middle of nowhere & it kind of is. Know why they keep this rapidly growing brewery here? Because of the water. Hopefully you grab a beer on a night there is live music or a food truck!
Want to see the beautiful Maine coastline? This is the spot. Just before the lighthouse turn onto Pemaquid Loop Road. Highly suggest walking the loop & then making your way to the rocks & "Rock hopping." There is something about the Maine coast that takes your breath away.
Did you know the Damariscotta River produces 75% of Maine's oysters? You will be in the land of oysters while you're here! This great sunset cruise is a beautiful way to see lots of oyster farms & spot seals along the way. There are drinks & oysters for purchase on the boat. Its a quintessential part of Maine that has its quirks but is a must for first time visitors to Maine!
Come for the breakfast, stay for the pies..Oh and of course Jill Nutter! Jill and the crew at Moody's have known Macauley since she was sitting in a high chair and couldn't see over the counter. No matter what you choose, Moody's delivers every time, grab yourself a grilled blueberry muffin, a slice of pie, or a cinnamon roll and you'll never be disappointed. If your looking for good old fashioned diner food, this is the place. Charlie's suggestion; don't sleep on Bertha's Burger it is phenomenal!
Incredible wood fired pizzas, need I say more? Honestly these pizza are possibly the best you can find in Maine. They are also all named after your favorite characters from movies and TV shows; you can't go wrong! DO NOT MISS SATURDAY/SUNDAY BAGLES!!! Available starting around 8{ish} until sold out. Sunday there are breakfast sandwiches!
This place has everything that you are looking for! Live music, great food, outdoor bar, and the dining area is right over top of the Damariscotta River. This is a favorite of the Kistler Family; you can't go wrong with a night spent at Schooner.
Check out all the cute shops of Damariscotta, Maine! Founded in 1848, this town is full of charm. Be sure to stop in Wildings. The store owner Coco is our florist! King Fisher & The Queen as well as Beach Plum Company (across the bridge) are two other favorites! If you need a sweatshirt or something warm to wear, check out Reny's & The Puffin's Nest.
When you hear "LL Bean," I hope you think of Maine. The incredible flagship store is not to miss while visiting. Good news, it's open 24/7 365! Have a late flight? Stop here to kill some time. There is also a Patagonia outlet across the street, one of Macauley's favorite spots! *Looking for a place to eat in Freeport? We suggest Maine Beer Company (pizza & beer)! Perfect for all ages - https://mainebeercompany.com*
DID SOMEONE SAY $1 OYSTERS?!? Charlie's best kept secret! Buck a shuck & shuck them yourself. Bring cash or have access to Venmo. Looks like you're pulling into someone's home.. you are. You will find a fridge full of oysters & you pay using the honor system. Gotta love Maine!
Port Clyde is quintessential coastal Maine; the view of the ocean is amazing and this restaurant has all the Maine classics you're looking for. This is a highly debated topic for sure, but the Dip Net has one of the best Lobster Rolls in the area! If you're looking for something a little bit different, try the Baked Seafood Casserole.
Are you looking for something quick, easy and cheap? Then look no further: Wasses Hot Dogs are to die for! This is a personal favorite of Charlie's late grandfather Tom Bliss. Rockland is a beautiful Maine town right on the coast. Plenty to do and see!
