How We Met

3/20/2016

Peter and Emily first struck up a conversation over OK Cupid... that Emily doesn't remember at all. But some time later, they connected again, and bonded over egg puns online before deciding to meet in person at Colectivo Coffee on the Square. Twenty hot chocolates later (or three, as Peter tells it), Peter was chocolate-inebriated and Emily was smitten. Maybe it was the Mark Twain quote that Peter spent a full five minutes trying to remember... maybe it was the way that Emily stranded Peter miles from his home after their date... but both agree that four hours passed like a minute that night, and they couldn't wait to see each other again... ... for date #2, at a local curling club. But that's another story!

He Said Yes!

2/1/2020

One normal Saturday afternoon, Peter walked into the living room to find a little Japanese puzzle box -- his favorite! Emily was very nonchalant and (badly) pretended she had no idea what was in it. 15 minutes later, Peter solved the puzzle box and found a little note inside. (Emily feigned surprise.) The note led Peter on a scavenger hunt all around the house and the clues were all lyrics to songs that Peter and Emily loved to sing together. (Mostly show tune duets from some VERY average musicals.) Finally, Peter found the last clue in their guest room, which instructed him to turn around. When he did, Emily got down on one knee and popped the question ("will you stay with me for fifteen to seventeen years or the life of a puppy?"), and Peter said yes! After a few minutes of crying and hugging and excitement, Peter and Emily decided to take a celebratory walk around the neighborhood. They harnessed the puppies, donned their coats and gloves, opened the door, stepped outside... and found a man's body. Peter began chest compressions, Emily called 911, Toby snoofed the man's face, and Oliver did some very helpful barking. After the ambulance pulled away and all the neighbors dispersed, the adrenaline decreased and the puppies calmed down, Peter and Emily shared their news with family and friends, and agreed they may never have another weekend quite like that one. [P.S. -- the man survived! He will make a full recovery.]
