This takes you to a parking lot at the end of canal park next to many old fashioned brick buildings and touristy shops. Explore the DeWitt Seitz Building. Inside is Northern Waters Smokehaus (smoked fish sandwiches), a candy shop and other fun stuff. Within this area is also access to the lakewalk and the pier with the lighthouse. Great spot to watch the ships come in next to the lift bridge.
Nice view of the city and the lake. Many flights of stairs, just a warning!
Our wedding coincides with HAWK MIGRATION!!!! Duluth is a bottleneck for birds coming from Canada who fly South along the shores of Lake Superior. They form large groupings called Kettles and ride the hot air whirls that form above all that ROCK along the shore! Thank goodness for that failed Midcontinent Rift, AM I RIGHT!? There is no Hawk Ridge Building. This just takes you to the E Skyline Parkway. You can keep driving along this road, it is very pretty with a nice view of the city and lake from above, hence the name "Skyline." Many places to pull the car over and check out the view.
Fitgers is a really cool and historical building. Inside are many shops and food options. -Mexico Lindo with outdoor seating looking out onto Lake Superior -Fitgers brewhouse and grille -The Boat Club Restaurant and Bar
Very cool geology in this area. Located 25 mins south of Duluth. Alternating Graywacke and Slate are all upturned and sideways sticking out of the river. You can play on the rocks! There is a cool swinging bridge. The drive along hw 210 is amazing from jay cooke into duluth (as opposed to taking 35N). If you take the scenic route it adds 15 minutes to get to Duluth.
You drove all the way here to Duluth. It would practically be a shame if you didn't venture just a teensy bit further to check out the North Shore! But then again, we understand if you are totally sick of driving. Here is an option for a beautiful day trip to a wonderful waterfall. This is located 45 minutes north of Duluth. The drive to this park is along the shores of Lake Superior. We recommend taking the scenic drive to get there, rather than the slightly more inland highway 61 that runs parallel to it. The waterfall is only a 5 minute walk from the parking lot and is wheelchair accessible. Nice bathrooms too. If you want to venture further (wheelchair inaccessable) it is about a 30 minute walk to go from the waterfall, following the river on the southern side, to the shores of Lake Superior. There are some pretty sick short cliffs along these shores. If you want super large cliffs you can drive 20 minutes further north to Palisade Head or Tettagouche State Park.
