The VERY best spot around for the ultimate comfort food. Mac Nation offers an insane amount of mac and cheese variations - even mac flights! This spot is on the scenic route to our venue and is nearby some mellow hiking parks including, Lair O' the Bear, Corwina Park and Dedisee Park.
St. Mary's Glacier is a beginner friendly hike to one of the most serene landscapes! Don't forget to climb up towards the glacier to catch the best view of the lake and fall colors below. We have enjoyed several hikes here with friends and family. Early on in our relationship, we even climbed up the cliffs and jumped into the freezing glacier melt! Trail Details: Length: 1.5 miles round-trip. Difficulty: Moderately difficult. Terrain: Rocky. Altitude: Reaches an altitude of 11,000 feet. Parking: There are two paid parking lots, one south and one north of the trailhead, costing $20 per day per vehicle.
Fairplay, also known as South Park, is a charming small town near some of Colorado's most well known 14ers (14,000 ft tall mountains). Mr. Burro Cafe, on the main drag is one of our favorite places to stop on the way to or from hikes and camping. It's family owned and serves delicious lox sandwiches and giant cinnamon rolls.
Check out this charming mountain town with gorgeous mountain views right on main street! One of our favorite spots to eat is Butterhorn Bakery Cafe - Peter especially loves the biscuits and gravy. Lake Dillon/Frisco Reservoir is right around the corner, offering walking trails, water views and boat rentals!
Not far from Leadville lies Twin Lakes. It may be a tiny town, but it is definitely something to behold! The Twin Lakes reservoir is outlined by massive mountains, including the tallest in the state, Mt. Elbert. If you continue driving through Twin Lakes and up Independence Pass a ways, you'll be in store for endless views and hiking. This road connects all the way to Aspen, for those looking to extend their road trip.
Downtown Buena Vista is just 20 minutes from our wedding venue. The town boasts Old West style storefronts and eateries, beautiful mountain views and a lovely riverwalk. We have enjoyed The Lariat for sports and live music and Eddyline Restaurant at South Main for brunch and Bloody Mary's.
