Before the start of the school year, the faculty held an orientation for new students to meet current students. I had been attending FACS for 5 years and Zach was a new face. As an ice-breaker game, we all sat in a circle and the people who were “it” ran and tagged someone else, taking their spot. For some reason, I tagged Zach every time. I guess I was just drawn to him ;) I felt bad and kept saying sorry. He just laughed. We soon became best friends. I’ll keep choosing him every time.
Over the course of the 2 years following the 8th grade orientation, Lyndsey couldn’t make her mind up if she felt feelings greater than friendship. I decided to play hard to get... she came running to me a month later (HAHA). Then sure enough she finally realized that I was the guy for her (something I had known since we met). At the start of sophomore year, I asked her to be my girlfriend, and it’s been L&Z ever since. It’s been over 6 years of donut runs, workin out, cooking, studying, hanging with family, and growing more in love with each other and The Lord. We cannot wait to start our lives together in June and be surrounded by the ones we love!
In October, Zach and I made a weekend trip to San Antonio to see his family. I didn’t think much about it. I was so excited to see his family and be in the city that we adore. Per usual, Zach took me on a dinner date. After we eat, it is our tradition to head to the river walk and stop by his dad’s building on the way. Mr. Steve is always showing us around the Alamo Dome and introducing us to people, so I always have fun there. We went to the entrance that we normally do, but Zach drove past the spots where we usually park. He kept driving, and before I knew it, we were driving into THE ACTUAL STADIUM! I was like “Zach, wasn’t that where we were supposed to park? What are you doing? You’re about to drive on the turf!!” Trying to hold back a smile and acting dumb, he said, “Uhh I just think we’re supposed to go up here.” I went from complete confusion to heart-stop in 2 seconds as I looked up and saw balloons and a table in the middle of the field. He parked at the 50 yard line and my heart was racing out of my chest. As soon as we got out of the car, I was grinning from ear to ear. He took me down memory lane, with chronological pictures telling the story of our relationship, from high school, through college, and now. Around the table in the shape of the heart were countless movie ticket stubs, letters, receipts, bobby pins, and even prom boutonnières. For our one year anniversary, I had made us memory jars to keep items in that reminded us of one another. Little did I know that Zach had saved an item from almost every date we had gone on during the past 6 years. We stepped into the circle of memories and Zach got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I think I said yes before he finished the question!
