Question

What should I know about the ceremony?

Answer

This is a Quaker wedding, which means there will be silent worship where guests can stand and speak if they are moved to. We expect the ceremony to last about 45 minutes in total. If you'd like to learn more about Quaker weddings beforehand, there's more information on the page of this website titled "Quaker Wedding?". There will also be a printed program and a clear explanation at the beginning of the ceremony to help everyone feel welcome and comfortable.

Question

Is there parking at the venue?

Answer

The venue has two parking lots for guests. The main lot is down the hill from the house, and there is a small lot right next to the house for guests who need to be closer. There are not quite enough spots for every guest to drive their own car, so please carpool with your friends or family if it's easy to arrange.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Our dress code is formal, so please wear your best attire appropriate for an outdoor wedding. The ceremony will happen around the peak of the day's heat, so make sure to check the weather and avoid any heavy fabrics. Since the ceremony is on a lawn, stiletto heels are not recommended.

Question

What time is the wedding?

Answer

The ceremony will begin at 3pm. The cocktail hour will follow directly afterward and dinner will be served around 5pm. The venue closes at 9pm.

Question

Is there a hotel for guests?

Answer

Yes, we have a room block at the Homewood Inn by Hilton located on City Ave. This is only a 15 minute drive from the venue. The link to book rooms in our block is located on the "hotel and transportation" page.

Question

Are the ceremony and reception at the same place?

Answer

Yes. Once you arrive for the ceremony at Awbury Arboretum, all the main events are there. There is an after party once the celebration at the venue is over, at Union Tap House in Manayunk, for anyone who wants to keep hanging out after 9pm.

Question

Are children welcome?

Answer

Yes! Children are invited, and there is a kid's meal for children under 12. We will not have professional childcare on site, but there will be outdoor games and there is ample space for running around or exploring the trails, including a "secret garden" at the arboretum designed for kids.

Question

How many people are expected?

Answer

We expect around 130 people. Please RSVP by May 1 so we know who to expect, and let us know if you have any questions about who is invited as part of your party.
