Luke and Katherine first met when Luke was doing his medical school interview at the University of Toledo. She was a third year medical student and he stayed on her couch the night before his interview. They connected about both being Taiwanese and she was excited for him when he got accepted in the coming class of medical students. Luke and Katherine starting hanging out more often during his first year of medical school after encouragement from Katherine's friends. They went on their first date and the rest is history! They endured the COVID-19 pandemic together and relied on each other during those unprecedented times. Katherine and Luke both spent time with each other's families during lockdown and grew to love each other's families as their own. While life was hard, their shared company made it easy.
As many of you know, medical training is not easy. It is a long, strenuous process. Luke supported Katherine during her strenuous OBGYN residency and she often attributes her success to his unwavering support. Likewise, Katherine supported Luke through medical school and they even got to do a C-section together during his OBGYN rotation. While there were many trials and tribulations, it was done better because they could do it together. At the end of their time in Toledo, Luke decided that it was time to solidify their plans to spend their lives together. He proposed at one of their first date locations at Side Cut Metropark. They reminisced on the days of their early relationship and then celebrated with all their friends and family.
After finishing training in Toledo, Katherine moved to St. Louis, MO for Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship while Luke moved to Madison, WI to finish his PM&R residency. While long distance is hard, they feel that it has pushed their relationship to grow in so many ways! Every weekend together gets to be a mini vacation to enjoy time together and explore their new respective cities!
